Even consumer-grade electronics in basic cars are fundamentally 'EMP proof' as sensitive instruments need to be isolated from interference and it just so happens that this incidentally is sufficient to protect against such pulses for all practical purposes; I'd wager the amount of energy you'd need to do damage to them to require sufficient proximity to the typical delivery method of such a pulse- a nuclear device- that the inability to protect against said pulse is moot due to the whole vehicle being an unidentifiable wreck twisted around a pole 20 kilometers away. Or just slag.
Oh well yeah if it's a Carrington Event with the infrastructure we have right now that would be disastrous across the board and possibly to more than 'just' electronics that aren't up to the task of withstanding an angry star fart (fundamentally all of them that aren't buried underground)
