Meet Morgan, a protogen, He's been something I wanted to make for a while, but never really settled on what the look would be like. Fluffy was of course the given trait, but I really wanted to go for something unique. so purple, and with wings really caught my eye. and I've really wanted to do some good cyberwing. having the projected pseudo matter wings extending from a set of articulated wing joints.
Morgan himself isn't always male though, his cybernetics having a modification that lets him alter some of his biological aspects, able to change his sex, or even give himself breasts, as well as altering the size of his assets. So Morgan can go for a while as female if he wanted to. though, he might get pretty distracted if he gives himself boobs for too long. >w>
So I've been wanting to make a Protogen character, so I wanted to look up details about them from the official reference sheets. And I unfortunately find that there's some rather scummy rules revolving around what the creator was doing with the Protogen species. As far as I know though, given how the protogen community that already know about the 'rules' the creator made, tend to treat it as a joke. But to give a short explanation, protogens were split into rarity. common, uncommon and rare. With rare being exclusive to being adoptables from the creator, and were the only ones that supposedly could have wings, multiple limbs, and additional ears past 2 sets. While common and uncommon were free for people to make as they pleased. which, comes off strange to gatekeep like that, saying that you can make a protogen how you want, but if you want one with wings, you are required to pay for it. and as an adoptable. so you can't even decide how you want your "rare" protogen to look.
Again, I'm under the impression that at this point, the creator doesn't try to enforce this any more, cause their original rules stated that they would publicly blacklist the 'offender' who makes a rare protogen without paying for one (the same goes for the 'upgraded' Primagen species that are exclusively adopts.) And then states that they would potentially reuse features of the 'offending' protogen for a future design to be sold to someone else.
So take it with a grain of salt. From what I've seen of the Protogen community, the 'threat' of getting blacklisted by the creator is considered a meme joke at this point. so I'm going to go ahead and have my protogen with cyberwings. cause I like how they look with the translucent projected pseudo matter wings.

Thank you. ^ ^ and yeah, it can be a bit daunting to try designing one of your own. XD you really have to get a good idea in your mind what you want. usually I start with getting a basic pose first, and then adding the detail bits as I go from there. trying to have details from the start is what makes it really hard.
While a creator is entitled to protect his creation, that can only go so far without official copyright or some other such clause. If you get 'blacklisted' for enjoying something then we'd all be living in a dystopia.
I like Protogens. I've always been a sucker for cybernetics and future tech. Morgan here looks so fluffy and cute I'd just want to give him a hug!

That's kind of the thing. Copyright law protects any one given art piece. But it doesn't protect a method of making something.
like for example, you can't copyright a recipe for making a cake, but you can copyright the cake itself if you've made it with artistic design as an art piece. So that if someone copies the exact cake design for profit, then it is subject to copyright laws.
So Protogens fit in that same kind of middle ground. Since the creator 'officially' stated that people are free to make their own protogens, they had basically released a 'recipe' for making protogens. But of course, any one individual design of a protogen is protected by copyright laws, (which works both ways. this means that the creator can't take a design someone else made and resell it. violating artistic copyright.) But not protogens as a whole. the only way to really do that is by trademarking the name. But that involves going to a government agency and paying them to own the rights to a trademark. But even then, they might not approve it.

Yeah. there's nothing wrong with "here's a species, you can make one. But I'll also design some that'll be up for adoption." which I see that being the proper way to do it. But no paywall gatekeeping. no one will take it seriously.
but yeah. I do like protogens regardless. :3 they're fun.

Imagine being such an hopeless looser and mental reject, You'd go as far as to impose "rules" in an art creation You've made that everyone can do fucking whatever they most feel like it (Something that isn't even under copyright rule to begin with).
Lmao
This fucking fandom, man.
