Mrs. Gardner had just settled the class in their seats, and finished marking attendance when the door to the classroom opened. I walked a very sheepish and somewhat deflated Thistle Down.
“Miss Down, how good of you to join... Oh dear, are you alright?”
The small filly limped to the teacher's desk. “It isn't my fault! Mommy didn't wake me up, the stoopid rocks popped my hooves, and I have a note!”
The tiny filly placed her forehooves up for her teacher to inspect. She reached into her saddlebags and got the note from her mother and handed it to her teacher. “See what the road did to me!”
Mrs. Gardner's heart lurched. The hurt puppy eyes emanated strongly from this one. “Heaven help the poor colt whom she turns this look on to!” she thought to herself. She unfolded the note and read:
