Come Together, Come Undone WIP
Her hair was silk on his pawpads, and he couldn't stop himself from tangling his fingers in the long cobalt lengths. The heat of his own blood was clouding his thinking and, if he was honest with himself, his better judgment. But she had stepped closer to him so that they were almost nose to nose. "Ah, I see that I have not been so alone as I thought at night," she whispered, her golden eyes large but not angered.
"I might have heard something and gone out to investigate, yes," he replied, his voice a hushed mumble. He tried harder than he thought he'd have to to maintain eye contact with her.
She chuckled and moved closer, the paw that was still on his hand interlacing with his fingers and her own hair. Gently, she nuzzled into the side of his muzzle, her breath like spring warmth on his face, adding to the blush that was already rising to the surface. "Seems we both have secrets, Samurai," she whispered and her breath was green tea and honey. "I wonder, how many more do you have?"
The hand on his arm tightened a bit, causing his breath to hitch in his throat as he struggled to stop himself. What a fool he must seem...a hardened Samurai unable to stop himself from playing with some girl's hair. He pinned his ears and winced as he tried to pull away from the warmth that was inviting him in so graciously. He found his efforts in vain when the hand that had been on the back of his arm slide further around his back and clutched at the silk of his black kimono. "I am sorry, Samurai, have I disrespected you?" When he opened his eyes, he found hers to be pleading, twinkling with honesty and concern.
He offered her a smile, moving his left hand to her shoulder, firmly gripping her and pulling her closer while the other hand moved around to her cheek, rubbing it cautiously at first. "No, Okari-san, I am afraid that I have disrespected YOU." He stared into her eyes. "And that is the LAST thing I want to do."
"Ragnarok, you have brought life to my house," she offered graciously as her other arm moved down his forearm, rubbing it kindly. "My days are interesting now. I'm not used to carrying the social side of my name...for years, I carried the tradition of the sword, not ceremony. I suppose you would say I'm not your typical Japanese woman." There was fire to that statement, and hearing it made his ears turn forward.
"That you certainly aren't," he said as he relaxed his posture a little bit, pulling her more into him as he rested the front of his muzzle against her forehead, nuzzling and breathing in the scent he had recognized and remembered since that first day. He longed to comfort her as she had comforted him whilst he had laid bleeding into the earth. They stayed like that for several minutes, neither willing to go further, neither willing to back away when they heard the sound of laughter and footsteps coming closer.
As if awakened from a dream, Ragnarok spun on his heels, whispering a disjointed "Dammit!". When he turned around, Okari was gone as though she had been a spectre before him. He turned around wildly before he heard a quiet whistle above him. Looking into the branches of one of the larger of the cherry trees, she looked down at him, offering her hand as she perched on the branch. "Come on, take my hand!" she laughed at him like a child hiding a secret.
He smiled back, his upper lip curling to reveal half of his fangs. Taking a few steps back before running and leaping onto the trunk of the tree, he somersaulted up into the heights of the cradling bows. Okari climbed up after him, trying to stifle her laughter. He pressed his back up flush against the twisted trunk and unconsciously pulled the wolfess towards him as they watched a party of ochaya patrons walking through the well kept garden. He strained his neck forward over Okari's shoulder, wrapping his arms around her waist to make sure neither of them would fall. The Oka-san of the ochaya was talking to the two youngest members of the group about arranging their marriage, and the conversation was looking to be lengthy.
"Goddamnit," Ragnarok uttered under a snarl. "With these two lovesick pups going on we'll be up here til the trees bloom next year!"
Okari giggled at him, and the crowd beneath them was suddenly silent. Ragnarok quickly put a paw over his benefactor's smiling muzzle and pulled her in even closer to him, hoping the gnarled trunk would do well to keep them in the shadows.
"Did anyone else just hear laughter?" asked the bride to be. The others responded by looking into the tree as fireworks were set off somewhere nearby, casting a magical array of colors onto the blossoms.
"Shit," Ragnarok thought was he moved his hand from Okari's muzzle to her waist.
After several seconds of searching the branches for signs of mischief, the oka-san spoke up, "Perhaps it is a sign of good luck, young ones. Maybe the Goddess herself is happy with your choice. You have picked a good night to make your relationship blossom. Now, let us continue to the reflecting pond to make arrangements." Okari and Ragnarok watched both warily and with a tickling sense of humor as the party walked off, kimono swishing and sandals clacking down the stone path. When all seemed safe, Okari turned to face the young samurai. "I think it's safe to say that you are ready to do more around my house," she smiled at him and earned a raised eyebrow in return. "During the day, you will train with Kengi. He will help you get your strength and stamina back."
Ragnarok cocked his head to the side. "Is he Samurai? I hadn't noticed anyone above a house guard on your land."
Okari nodded, "He is a dear friend and would be willing to help. He will be your warm up during the day."
Ragnarok nodded an affirmative and slipped out of the tree, landing almost silently on his large lupine feet. "Well, warm ups are great, but who's going to be the one to get me back into fighting shape, Okari-san?"
He looked up into the tree and saw nothing where her smiling face had once been. His ears rotated around, listening for silent clues that weren't there. Her whereabouts became known when she dropped to the ground in front of him, and executed a perfect sweeping kick that landed him on his back. Incredulous, he looked up at her, blinking, as she dusted off her hands. One hand on her hip, eyes laughing and daring, she offered him her hand. As he took it, she answered his question. "That will be me."
More of the Okari/Ragnarok drabble and sketch thing. I do plan on finishing these someday. Ragnarok is the property of skyler-ragnarok whilst Okari is mine.
