WARNING: NEOPET SHIT.
While I don't feel the gryphon 'sona suited me, I still like gryphons... And there's a gryphon-like neopet species called an eyrie.
I am trading for a baby one named Owlli (baby custom, if you play) and here are a few character development sketches for my new neopet.
Sort of combining attributes of racoons (mask), cats, skunks (tail) and owl (chest plumage)... Looks a lot like Muchi owl though. Might change her a bit. These sketches are just to work out a few details.
You didn't have to read the above though. It's just a cute gryphon thing for all you care :p

My gryphon character Clax started out as an Eyrie on Neopets :) Back in the day he was a Darigan Eyrie, but I gave him some customizations: I kept his mane and tail tip purple because he was a purple Eyrie for such a long time, and I kept the tail tip as a tuft rather than the typical Eyrie tail spike for the Darigan. Not many changes, it helped him stand out a little bit. Used to RP as him back in the day when I had a lot of friends playing Neopets, and I used to enter him in the Beauty Contest a lot, and whenever I got the opportunity, I'd submit to their art gallery for a chance at getting a rare item so I could sell it XD
When it was getting harder and harder for me to earn Neopoints on the game, I just gave up on it, self-froze my account and left. Clax because a Gryphon for my own purposes and that was pretty much the end of that. Although, I still have the last of my Neopets accounts around, just for the fun of it, and re-made Clax, but I only play it whenever my pets log out of the Neolodge - I'll put them back in, check out the Daily freebies and that's it for that month =P

I gave up on it back in 2006, but I had a total of 4 accounts. The one with the original Clax in it was my main account, and I had that one since February of 2002. I can't even remember my info from that account, so even if I wanted to get it unfrozen, I can't =P Each of my pets had some kind customization and their own personality.
Clax (Claxon Thunderwing) was the "purple Darigan Eyrie" and basically the big brother, looking out for his siblings.
Medaglia was a fat disco Chomby that wore glasses and loved to cook and bake.
Catalin Fangtail started out as some random Neopet cuz I desparately wanted a Krawk, and when I got my greedly little hands on a Krawk potion, I just created some pet so I could change him into that. Eventually he turned into a Fire Draik with help from a potion (back when Fire Draik potions were 100k...wow...) and eventually became an Island Draik, he was the comedian/comic relief of the group, his only special physical feature is that he didn't have a wreath on his head XD
Fahwna was the youngest, and for a while she was a Faerie Ixi, and she was a tyrant, always starting trouble and fights. I had it that being a Faerie just wasn't agreeing with her, and once she was turned into a Cloud Ixi, her personally changed for the better, but since she was so used to having wings as a Faerie, she developed white feathered wings.
In another account (the account I now currently have) is Auroratry. For the longest time, she was a Cloud Eyrie and had a dream of becoming a Faerie Eyrie. She's also Clax's younger sister from the same parents. She started out as being a Sweet Valley-type personality and was also best friends with Fahwna, but her personality changed as well, as she grew up. I remember feeling so disappointed when they finally came out with the Faerie Eyrie and it didn't really look all that special =P She eventually became one though, with the thanks from a friend who zapped her until she became a Faerie.
I used to role-play them all when I was much more active on Neopets...and back then, it was (for some odd reason) against their rules to pay someone Neopoints for stuff that isn't part of the game (like paying someone neopoints to draw your character)...otherwise, I would've taken commissions to gain the points cuz there was just no way I was going to sit and play their games all day long just to earn a measely 1000 points =P
A couple of the things that really upset me that had happened was when I was saving up Negg points to buy the most expensive Negg for Clax (he was the only fighter I was training), and when I went to purchase the Negg, a glitch happened, and I lost ALL my Negg points and never got my Negg :( I reported it several times, but nothing was done about it. Another time was when I was absolutely sure that someone had hacked into my account: all of my Lord Kass stuff that I was collecting was GONE, a ton of rare items from my Safe Box were gone - it was close to half empty - and all of my petpets that my pets had that had a petpetpet attached to them were gone. I tried reporting this several times to, and the staff basically shrugged and told me "Well, what do you want US to do about it?" It really peeved me off >.<
And now, everything seems so super-expensive O.o There's absolutely NO way I would ever be able to get my current Clax to ever become a Darigan again. Then again, I don't play their games (with the acception of the Altador Cup), I just don't get a lot of nps for the amount of time I put into the games. I mean, it's a GAME, not a friggin' job >.<

I think the reason why they have the rule for selling art for nps, is to hopefully prevent scams...which in a way I can understand, there could can be some dishonest people out there who would take the "money" and "run" or an artist would draw something and the commissioner won't cough up the "money" or something. I used to frequent a game called Rescreatu, I used to draw for in-game money all the time. They allow it on te game, and I've never had a problem with any transactions or anything :)
Shortly after posting my previous reply here, I checked up on my Neopets account and found I had a TON of stuff in my shop I never bothered to put up for sale XD If I'm lucky to get nps through my shop, I do prefer that more than playing the games. Providing people actually buy from my shop >.>

Last Christmas I blew something stupid like $80 on NC xD My damn pets are better dressed than I am.
Trading UC werelupes is a pain :\ If it's well-named then your best bet is to trade for another UC... Should be able to get some UC greys/darigans. Otherwise, go converted and get something like a converted plushie or pirate pet, maybe a FFQ custom. I adore plushies though, so I'm biased ♥

It's against the rules, but some people on Furcadia Alt Market sell/buy neopets and neopoints for real cash. I don't want to risk getting frozen so I don't do it, but if you don't play it's one way to get something out of it ahaha.

I haven't played Neopets in years, it lost my interest and I fell away from it. I don't even remember what my passwords are anymore, else I would have given them away. >.<
That is a cute gryph baby, and I remember the Eyries. They should hire you for pet design, because this one is so, so much cuter.

They have their own artists, and my style wouldn't mesh well with the existing look I don't think, but I'm still flattered thank you xD
I've been on this stupid game something like eight years... xD Not sure why I continue to find it entertaining. I think it comes down to the site being inspiration for a lot of characters. That, and rubbing my expensive pets in the face of the little snot-nosed brats :> lol Hurrr.

Hmm, addiction, and pettiness... knew there was a reason I liked you. And really, I find I like that style of artwork less nowadays, so perhaps I am biased in saying I prefer yours over theirs... still think yours is much, much better.
And I played for something like three years, then even the pyramid card game couldn't hold my attention anymore. Sometimes I miss it, just for the creatures. Like you said, good inspiration.

And it's hard for the newer artists to give the new colours a personality when it MUST share a base with the others of it's species. You can pretty it up, but you can't change it's pose or anatomy... Heck, you're even limited when it comes to changing the mouth/eyes... I think they do a good job with what they have to work with ^^

Unfortunately, I used to be one of those petty and mean brats. <.<; Thankfully, I grew out of it though. Unfortunately, I stopped playing about a year or two after pulling my head out of my arse.
It would be pretty sweet if, when choosing a pet, one could choose a position, color, etc. Ah, well, a little bit of code that wouldn't slow down the site at all, and they'll never install. *smiles and shrugs*
You're definitely right about the art though, there are some truly fabulous artists on Neo, and a great way to get clean art, like you said.

As it is, a lot of kids complain about how bad the site lags. There's a lot of heavy flash now, especially with animated clothing items for your pets. As for changing poses, as it is they have to draw every piece of NC clothing on every pet - it'd take too long if they had to also do it for three poses, so I can see why they keep one model.
As for the art... well, this is a neopet - and the artist has several neopet-related works in their gallery.

Ah, see, I haven't been on the site in years, so I didn't realize how much Flash they were using nowadays. Shame, really, they used to almost never have problems with lag.

Yeah, the flash is pretty painful... And trying to disable the ads with firefox completely fucks with it x_x; So I just have to leave most of them there.
And yeah, it's a relatively new pet called a lutari - an otter-like neopet. They are limited edition and cannot be pounded/traded. That artist did a wonderful job ♥
