Chapter 14: Start of an adventure
(Back in Ariel and Eric's castle home...)
It was twilight, the sun was setting into the ocean and the whole sky was bathed in a spectacular show of colors. Melody sighed as she watched the evening sky. "What a day!!" She exclaimed as she wiped the sweat from her forehead.
After Melody gave her guest the tour of the palace, the event quickly turned into a big game of hide-and-seek. Mainard, Tracy, Edgard, Dianne, Garrick, Azad and Malak had run shortly after discovering the upstairs servants' quarters. Only Kathrin, Luciana, Ping, Jin and Radelle stayed with her and tried to keep the others under control.
Mainard and Edgard found some swords in Eric's weapon study and they started to play 'Knights', parrying and slashing at each other without any lethal force or results, much to Melody's great worry. Tracy took some books of clothing design and ocean life from Ariel's room while Diannie and Jin tried on some jewels that were also in her mother's room.
Meanwhile, Azad and Ping found the royal gymnasium where they decided to practice some sword-play with the wooden swords there. They were both evenly matched until Ping emerged victorious. After that, Azad asked if they could spar again another time, which Ping happily agreed.
Radelle, Luciana and Garrick went into the kitchen to explore, the twins found two frying pans to find a little pan spar while Radelle tried her hand at cooking, giving Louie a great headache. Kathrin tried to reason with the other girls, but unfortunately, she was too mild-mannered. Tracy got her and Jin to read some of the books in Ariel's study about marine life. While they were distracted, Tracy wandered off to search for more
As for Dianne, she took some of the jewels from Ariel's make-up room, a thin but strongly made and intricate golden crown, a white pearl necklace and a ring with a small circular obsidian centerpiece. Melody hit the roof when she found out about this and chased the little trouble-makers all day.
It took some time to convince Dianne to return back the jewels, but it wasn't that bad. Fortunately, they were all tired and were able to clean up the mess and any evidence before their parents or the servants could find out how they were doing. Right now, all of the royal children were resting on the royal balcony, enjoying the sunset.
Mainard was resting on a chair, Edgard was chatting with his sister on what they can do tomorrow, Azad and Ping were discussing various martial arts skills, Radelle was telling Jin and Malak all the delicious food from her home in New Orleans while Kathrin and Luciana were immersed in the books they took from Ariel's library.
Tracy and Garrick each by pulled up a chair and sat by Melody and either side. "Today was a great day, Melody!" Tracy happily stated. "I would like to see more tomorrow if you don't mind." Melody smiled a little. "It would be my pleasure." She replied. "Though, I hope tomorrow won't be as wild as today, I'm a little surprised that you and the others actually ran me ragged."
Garrick chuckled. "Yeah, sorry about that." He added. "We're just so excited to explore new places and meet new people." "Why do you think me and my sister always go around barefoot?" He asked wryly, making Melody giggle. "Our great aunt Willow always told us that we'll never know we stand in the world if we can't feel the ground beneath your feet."
Tracy smiled. "I wished I was as adventurous as you and your sister." She explained. "Back home, the people and the other kids are always a little shy and stiff when meeting me, because I'm Cinderella and Charlie's daughter." Melody could relate to that, being a princess herself. Fortunately to her, the citizens here warmly welcomed her and her family with open arms.
"It's alright." Melody replied. "I just hope you all like dinner tonight. We're having..." She stopped when she saw something flash in the sky. Her eyes widened as she stood up and peered into the sky to get a clear look. Tracy and Garrick noticed her action and when they looked at the direction she was looking, their own eyes widened in shock.
"Guys!!" Garrick exclaimed. "Look, a meteor shower!!" Instantly, all the other kids gathered and watched in amazement at the falling stars. "Wow!" Luciana exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "I never seen a meteor shower before!!" "Me neither!" Jin added, excitedly. "They only happen once every 30 years!!"
"Hey, guys..." Malak spoke up. "Is it just me or are those stars getting bigger?" "What do you mean, Malak?" Her brother asked. "We've seen meteor showers before, why would they-" He stopped, and his eyes widened when he looked at the meteors closer.
Sure enough, the 14 falling stars were growing bigger by the minute. The children watched in shock as the stars continued to fall, shooting over the castle and landed a few miles away from their location.
*BOOM!*
A great explosion resounded throughout the skies and a great blast of wind swept across the land, even reaching the castle. The stars landed in the forest, destroying some of the trees and scaring off the birds and animals living there. On the balcony, all the royal children stared with wide eyes and jaws agape.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" Mainard yelled in amazement. "Did you all see that?!" "Of course, we did!" Radelle exclaimed, just as amazed. "Are we dreaming this?!" "Melody, have you ever seen anything like it?" She asked, turning to the said princess. "No..." Melody replied, shaking her head in disbelief. "No, I haven't..."
Edgard immediately jumped up. "Come on!" He yelled, heading towards the door. "Let's check it out!" "Really?!" Luciana asked excitedly as she, along with Mainard, Garrick, Azad, Malak and Dianne hurried to follow him. "Let's go!"
"Woah, hold on now!!" Ping cried out, worried. "We don't know what those things were, it could be dangerous!" "Besides, it's almost dinner-time and our parents will be worried about us if we leave." She added. "Ping's right," Kathrin spoke up, nervously. "It's getting late, maybe we can wait until tomorrow to get a better look." "Besides, I don't like staying out so late." She added.
"I'm with the two of them." Tracy spoke up. "It's not like the stars are going anywhere, we could check them out tomorrow or have Queen Ariel and King Eric send search parties." Truth be told, she was just as curious as the others about the falling stars. She had seen many stars in the sky but never seen one up close before. Fortunately, her common sense ruled out her curiosity.
"Aww, come on!" Mainard whined. "This could be our only chance to see real stars up close!!" "Besides, going out at night is what real adventurers do best!" "Who's with me?!" Edgard and Dianne were automatically on his side, so were Malak and Azard. "I'll be stupid to miss out on this!" Garrick spoke up, grinning. "Count me in!"
"Me too!" Luciana added, excitedly. "This could be the discovery of a lifetime!!' "Just think, we could be the first kids to discover real, actual stars!!" She squealed. "Please, it'll only be a quick look and we'll be back before you know it!!" She added, trying to convince the others.
Melody was unconvinced. "Well, how exactly do you all plan to get there?" She inquired. "It's about six miles away and even if we walked, it would take some time to reach there." "Besides, it's dangerous to go out in the forest at night." She warned. "I heard from Daddy that there are bandits hiding out in the forest."
Some weeks ago, Ariel and Eric had received news that a band of bandits have taken over the forest, attacking and robbing anyone who were travelling in the woods. They were small in number but formidable in force and there were led by a cunning and cruel man known as Shadow-sneak was skilled in the art of escape. Eric and his soldiers tried to stop the wicked bandits, but they always managed to escape.
Azad smirked proudly. "Don't worry, Melody!" He exclaimed. "If there are any bandits, me, my sister, Mainard, Edgard and Ping can take care of them!" Ping blushed a little at Azad's compliment. "Hey!" Luciana spoke up, smirking. "What about me and Garrick?"
Dianne added, smiling mischievously. "And if you're worried about transportation, I think I know a way to get there fast and be back in time before our parents find out." She was grinning widely, one that made the other girls nervous.
(Deep in the forest...)
"Urgh..." Lok groaned out as he shook his head to clear his vision. "My head..." Rubbing the back of his head with his great paw, the White Bear stretched his limbs. "Grand-Chief, are you alright?" Evo asked in concern, getting Lok's attention. "Yes sister, I'm fine." Lok replied. "How about you?"
The Blue Pheonix flapped her four great wings. "Still in one piece." She replied as Neo-Quickforce and Clubber were next to wake up. "What was that about?" The Hippogriff spoke up, flapping his great wings. "What about the Blood-Moon?" "Never mind about them." Clubber grunted as he shook the dust from his antlers. "Where are we?"
Soon, the rest of the Blue-Moon Tribe were waking up, groaning a bit. "Urgh..." Babeon groaned as he clutched his stomach. "Dat be de last time I ever fly again." "I agree, brother." Glow-blade hissed, his three heads shaking. "S-S-Snakes-s-s aren't meant to fly."
"Get a grip, you two!" Batteram snorted, pawing the ground with his hoof. "That was nothing!" "My only regret is not smashed Backslash's head in!" The Great Buffalo added in annoyance before looking around. "But, where are we?" The other Monsuno looked around and found themselves in a great forest, much to their surprise and confusion.
"What's going on?" Nite-stone asked as he looked around. "Where’s Sanctuary City?" "What about Core-Tech?" Long-fang added. "Where did they go?" "Chase!" Lok called out, worriedly. "Chase, where are you?!"
Soon, all the Monsuno were looking around for their human partners. "Bren!" Neo-Quickforce called out. "Jinja, where are you!?" ""Nite-stone, Boost, can you track their scent?" He asked the Jackal and the Wolf. Boost and Nite-stone sniffed around, trying to find any trace of Team Core-Tech.
"We can't." The Great Wolf sighed, shaking his head. "It's gone completely cold." "Maybe, we could fly up and find our location." Sky-fall offered. "I'm sure they're still around." "Me and the other flying Monsuno will scout the area." He added. "I know we'll find them."
"Be careful, my friends." Lok called out, as Neo-Quickforce, Evo and Sky-fall took to the air. "We are in strange territory; we don't know who or what's out there." The three Monsuno nodded and flew up to the sky. "This place..." Mystic-blade spoke up. "It is different."
The others looked at him in confusion. "What do you mean, Far-Seer?" Charger asked. "I can sense the spiritual energy." The Winged-Serpent replied, his eyes closed. "The spirits here speak to me, differently." "The land is rich with magic," he added. "and the voice of Gaia rings louder in my ears."
Before anyone else could ask, Neo-Quickforce called out. "Brother Lok, you need to take a look at this!!" Lok was confused. "What is it?" He called back. "Brother, you need to see it for yourself!" The White Bear approached a tall oak tree and began climbing it. "Brother Quickforce, what could possibly be so..." He stopped in mid-sentence and his eyes widened in shock.
5 miles away was a village of sorts with houses and shops close to the sea. It looked similar to 1800s German architecture. What caught his attention however, was the enormous palace in the distance. It had marble walls and towers with red tile roofs and yellow flags. The setting sun made the whole castle glowing in the sky and made the ocean sparkle.
Lok just stared at the castle. "Where..." He asked. "Where are we?"
