This face is my handy work, no hallow in the middle and the faces are square to the sides. This stops the tooth from trying to twist off the shank and lowers the stresses on the tooth and shank.
To give you an idea of the load on this shank the D8 is give or take 40 tons, in good ground the drawbar pull is one and a half to two time machine weight. Because we are pulling through blasted rock the track grip is higher than on dirt. So at times there will be over three times the machine's weight pulling that shank and tooth through the blasted rock.
