Here's a quick shot of something I've been working on--I'll have these and several additional designs with me at my table at AnthroCon, so be sure to stop by and take a gander :3
Will post more photos of the others before the con hopefully!
(This particular decal is on a mirror, thus the reflection/bit o' blurring.)

Nope! We're doing it all on our own, not through a printer, so we're using sheets of opaque, colored vinyl. It's been frustrating and interesting and loads of fun all at once :P
That's pretty awesome work you get to do! I've allllways wanted to, but I haven't been able to find a shop that was willing to take on someone with very little experience. I've done my own screen printing, but never worked in a shop environment except for a day that a buddy let me help out. Print shop work in general fascinates me *_*
Any chance there's a particular vinyl supplier you'd recommend, perhaps for smaller amounts? Or any other vinyl advice you'd be willing to give me?

Okay now that I'm not typing on an iPhone's screen, I can continue this a bit.
It's pretty awesome until you do it every day. It loses its' lustre quickly, like any job. :P
This is the machine I work on: http://www.mrprint.com/en/ProductOv.....iew.aspx?id=15
It has fourteen individual vacuum tables in a carousel system that supports up to six simultaneous colours at an image-size of 37" x 49".
I work on a big-boy printer.
For suppliers, depends what you're looking for. Likely for small-scale small-size operation like you're doing, your best bet is to go down to an Office Depot or Staples or whatever you have like it and look for small vinyl sheets for inkjet printing. I know in 3M's designation, you look for products designated "IJ" for that purpose. Like "IJ36-20". I'm sure Avery has a similar line, and you're more likely to find that at office-stores.
If you want to get into colour, I'm a bit less-knowledgable on that front. I work with UV-sensitive inks, so you need big-ass ultraviolet light dryers. (Or small ones, but point remains.) Solvents and air-dry and such are not my forte.
What size are these pieces you're doing, anyway? I might be able to sneak you some samples of different materials if it's small.
Also, how're you keeping them..."together" for lack of a better term? Since I see they're not one single piece, there's various subdivisions.

Those machines are SO COOL. The one I got to play around with was a six color, but still! I'd been doing hand-pulled shirts, so walking into a shop and seeing the machinery just blew my mind.
I unfortunately have not had much luck finding local suppliers. Only one will deal with units less than 5 yards, and they are suuuuper expensive as a result (but hey, at least I picked up some retroreflective vinyl without having to pay $100 for a roll when I only need about two square feet). No office stores have had any material, but I'll keep pokin' around.
For printed vinyl, I go through Monoceros Media, since they've got a reeeaaally nice printer there. The stuff I do at home is single color, although I want to play with using two colors of vinyl in conjunction at some point, too.
The decals I've done range from 2.5-8" tall, and I usually work in 15x10" units of vinyl, just so that if a sheet gets messed up, less material is lost. Our machine requires 12-15" wide, and I usually do 8" tall as a minimum to prevent the paper from getting pulled out too far in either direction by the rollers.
The decals are "held together" by their backing. I weed out the extra material, and the stuff I actually want remains on its sticker paper. For loose pieces, I have to hold them down while I peel up the excess material, but I've experimented and they apply to glass/sketchbooks/etc just fine. If that's what you were asking?
