Richie, The Amazing Absorbent Ferret!!

A.K.A. Richie!!
This bashful little ferret is a bit different than you and I. If you've ever taken a dry sponge and stuff it into a tub of water, you've seen it swell and soak some of that water right up! Take that concept and Richie here. And turn it up to 100.
At a stage in his late teen years, Richie was someone who hated to see tragedy in the world, and hated even more that he could do nothing for any of it. The catalyst for this was a news report following an oil tanker taking a fatal crash. You can picture the rest.
Soon after...an announcement was made to make notification of a new research being done to enhance a creatures tolerance to harmful materials and chemicals, so they can be front line in case of situations like the aforementioned oil spill. Richie, being the chipper 'I wanna help the world' soul he was, eagerly jumped on board.
What no one prepared for, was how drastically these experiments would alter his very physiology. The desired effect was achieved, pesticides, corrosive chemicals and gasses, even extreme temperatures, nothing could physically harm our fair ferret. His vitals were peak, his body was beyond healthy. It was a smashing success.
However...it was also discovered his body had taken on a new trait. A very...absorbent one. Being subjected to moisture test, it was noticed that anything liquid based he touched, was immediately absorbed into his body.
His body considers itself to be nothing more than a giant drop of water. He may be solid like you and I, but the instant his body detects its touching any sort of liquid, it automatically thinks its 'surface tension' has been breached.
Due to this, moisture in richie's body becomes rapidly forced through the pores of his skin to meet and bind with whatever liquid he has come in contact with so it can draw said liquid back in safe and sound, like a sponge, and reseal itself back to normal.
Powerful enzymes produced by his system encapsulate every bit of harmful matter to prevent anything from spreading to anything vital, breaking it down entirely and allowing his body to use whatever it needs, I.E. Water and food, to pass through safely.
Richie has been deployed to numerous locations world wide, becoming a renown disaster specialist, chemical plant explosions, oil spills and the like, all safely slurped up and contained in the spongy noodle.
Of course, this doesn't come without some 'Large' Repercussions, mostly him turning into a ginormous blob for days as his body attempts to process everything he's soaked up.
The suit he wears is a tightly sealed rubber, latex blend, made to keep unnecessary liquid from seeping into his fur when not needed.
His tail remains exposed so he can use it as a bit of a straw, spot cleaning shorelines or areas where it isnt quite as efficient to roll around to soak everything up.
He is a shy, extremely bashful creature, which is funny considering how often he's on tv for being a hero for everything he does.
Yet he's all in this just to help the world be brighter. That and...over the years, he may have developed a bit of a growth loving complex. Hey, love your job if you can right?
Occasionally he sheds his suit, just to sit out in a rain storm, just to get that feeling of becoming a colossal water balloon, maybe takes a dip in a pool.
Being so many places world wide, he's seen alot of scenery, and loves to spend his time when he's blobbed out drawing and recreating the beautiful places he's visited. He enjoys reading and always has a handy e-reader tucked away in his suit for easy access when his mobility ain't so great.
