The original intent of writing short-form dossiers like these was to write and upload them at a more rapid pace than traditional prose. Oops. Anyway, here's one overviewing the hyrani- the space yeens.
Once again, I attempted to transpose it into the description, but as usual the formatting will be scuffed.

Galactic Population (Census) 144.2 billion
Inhabited Systems 80
Representative Government Hyrani War Council (Khardas Armada)
Overview
Massive, muscular, and aggressive, the hyrani species evolved on the warm world Ji in the Jinia system. The UEN made first contact with the hyrani in 2216, and the relationship between the two has been cold ever since. Even after the Great War of 2292, relations have only barely improved. Trade and diplomacy exist, but only while the War Council benefits from the interactions.
TRAVEL INFORMATION: Systems claimed and controlled by the Hyrani War Council are not free for United Earth Nations citizens to travel to and between. You will need a permit and permission to travel if not represented or sponsored by a recognized corporation or organization. Failure to abide could get you imprisoned under the penalty of War Council laws.
HOMEWORLD AND SOCIETY
Homeworld
I. stabit evolved into its modern form on the planet Ji, which orbits a hot A9 V star named Jinia, located 800 light years away from Sol. The system is located within the Orion Spur. “Ji” and “Jinia” share the same root word in an old Hyrani language named Ghuni meaning “gold”.
Ji, the homeworld of I. stabit, is only barely within “Earth-like” definitions. It is, by all measures, quite hostile to most other sapient life. Most people not indigenous to the planet report finding its conditions highly uncomfortable. Ji’s average global temperature is a scorching 309K, and consequently, the dominant environment on the planet is dry and arid. While pockets of fertile land exist mostly along the coasts of the planet’s small and dotted lakes, the hyrani themselves likely evolved in the steppe-like conditions that cover the majority of the land mass. Additional traits of Ji include its moderately high gravity (1.21 G), and thicker than average atmosphere.
Hyrani thrive in the warm conditions of their homeworld, but control many colonies on planets which don’t share them. Like all civilized sapient species, hyrani adapt to or change whichever environments don’t suit them.
Culture and Government
The hyrani have had a turbulent history, both in the eras leading up to their space age and the centuries since. Before the Great War of 2292, hyrani society was purely imperial, with all labor and policy being aimed at expansion of the regime. After its loss and subsequent white peace with the other belligerents of the War, a large shift in power occurred internally. The former Hyrani-Br’tll Hegemony split, and hyrani government reformed into the Hyrani War Council. The br’tll regained autonomy and became a separate nation, though still allied with the hyrani out of proximity and necessity.
The leadership is a council of military experts, with a single Chairperson elected to serve as head of state and government. Currently, this is a woman known as Jaraga Vaka’tas. Despite its authoritarian structure, the Hyrani War Council has a national constitution and lawmaking is often delegated to specialists. The Chairperson is checked by the council that elected them and can be removed if the country’s stability is at risk. The War Council has never declared itself to be any particular form of government, but most outsiders view it as a military dictatorship, since it is led by a junta.
Hyrani culture is still defined by its armies and navies. Citizenship can only be earned and kept by serving the state. The roles in which a citizen can serve are quite varied: the state controls many of the industries of its nation from accounting to manufacturing and beyond. All governed by the War Council are required to speak its language, conveniently known as the War Council Mandate. Due to its importance on military might, much of the cultural display of hyrani society is built into its weapons of war. Spacecraft, personal armor, and weapons, all have been built with raw intimidation in mind. Angular, aggressive, and dark colors are shared traits between hyrani technology and architecture. Functionality is also a pillar of hyrani design: hyrani shipyards are renowned for building craft that will last for years with no retrofitting required.
Population and Demographics
According to the War Council’s own census data and estimations by the UEN OSD, the hyrani population is 144.2 billion people. The Hyrani War Council is the largest polity by claimed space, with 518 claimed systems. However, at least 20 of these systems are also claimed by other countries, notably the Technocracy of Systia and the Yias Federation. Of these claimed systems, hyrani populations (civilian or otherwise) are present in 80 of them. The GDP per capita of the Hyrani War Council is $17,046, which is the second-lowest of all major powers.
Religion has historically been a non-factor for hyrani, and this continues into the modern era. As of 2404, 95% of hyrani citizens report having no religion.
SPECIES BIOLOGY
Anatomy and Physiology
Members of I. stabit are in general quite large: Standing anywhere between 180 and 230 centimeters, with powerful and aggressive builds weighing 100 and 160 kilograms. Only E. lacerta rivals the hyrani in size, and even then can’t compete with its speed.
The durable hide of I. stabit consists of rough skin covered with a thick layer of fur as insulation and padding. The fur generally colors in the reds, browns, and whites, and is covered with spots or stripes of black or brown. On the chest and abdomen, the fur is usually white. Two brow ridges sit above the eyes, giving hyrani a naturally hostile appearance even if the specific individual is amiable. Eye colors are muted, but typically fall within browns, greens, and blues. The neck and upper body are large and muscular, leading to hyrani possessing a “top heavy” look that hunches forward slightly. Female and male hyrani are difficult to tell apart at first glances, but sexual dimorphism mostly takes the appearance of slightly softer facial features, mammary glands, and less potent pheromones in the case of females. Both sexes possess a mane which is easily styled like hair, also a variety of colors such as black, brown, or red.
The features that make I. stabit such a resilient fighter are deeper than its fur and skin, however. Hyrani have “compartmental” nervous and circulatory systems that can self-numb pain reception and stop blood loss when limbs are heavily damaged and lost. Combined with this, it also has an aggressive and enhanced flight-or-fight response compared to other sapient species. When engaged, hyrani can shrug off otherwise immediately incapacitating wounds to continue combat or fleeing. This same ability can also allow hyrani to shrug off completely fatal wounds for minutes, either taking down their assailant down with them or providing a last stand to provide cover for escaping allies.
Life Cycle and Reproduction
I. stabit reproduces sexually, like other sapient species. Female hyrani usually give birth to a single live offspring which is, within hours, capable of moving and eating on its own. By age 15, hyrani enter adolescence and rapidly grow into adults by 18. After adulthood, female and male hyrani remain fertile until death, with a lifespan estimated to be roughly 90 years. Like humans, hyrani have cycles of menstruation which are concealed: it is usually impossible to tell when a female hyrani is ovulating, which has led to hyrani reproductive behavior becoming heavily matriarchal: women are vastly more likely to hold reproductive power. The current hyrani government, the Hyrani War Council, reinforces this natural instinct with laws and regulations.
