Old DA anthro contest entry. I did not win. It was probably too gory or something. I don't know exactly how many hours I spent on this, but I worked on it for about 3 days straight. Probably around 30+ hours.

I was never told why I lost, but there was a PG13 restriction. I honestly thought this would fall within the range of PG13. *shrug* Maybe the judges decided it didn't. Or maybe they were biased towards toon. Who knows. :) Even though I lost, I got a good portfolio piece out of it. :D

I remember when I first saw that this hadn't won (thanks to the person who gave you the sub) And how it was BLATENT that there was some cock-sucking going on SOMEWHERE that the other piece won over yours.
I say that that same thing went on with your most recent contest. Obvious that it should have been at least placed, if not won.
I hate how often politics play a part in shit it shouldn't -.-
I likes it

Your comment made me laugh at a very inopportune moment and now there is a rice in my nose... it hurts.
The recent Splice contest is the 4rth DA contest I've lost. XC I was browsing the entries and there were some other pieces that didn't even place that were incontrovertibly better than the ones that made the semi-finals and maybe even the finals.
That this one didn't make the semis is BEYOND ridiculous: http://alphabrush.deviantart.com/ar.....1?q=1&qo=1
And this one is rather excellent too: http://kasia88.deviantart.com/art/A.....0?q=1&qo=1

:3 Damned near everyone one of my colleagues, family, and friends are telling me I should leave but I don't want to. I like FA. There are some really great people here and I get my best crits here. I just wish there was some way to more easily manage flame wars and trolling. XC
Sadly, with the best crits and cool people you also seem to get the other end of the spectrum... :/
I think you should stay and do your best to flip off any trolls... and if it really gets too much, then take a break for a good long while. No harm done, and you can return and keep getting good crits.
It would be too much of a pity if some fat hairy trolls with bad personal hygiene in their mom's basements made FA lose one of its (if not the) best artist(s). :3
'sides, I'm exceedingly stroppy and will verbally and factually attack any trolls that I see because I hate them so much and their taunts don't get to me :)

XD Now you're just flattering me. Although I do appreciate it. :D
This is a multi-headed beast and to be totally honest, some of those heads are, shame me as it may to admit, mine. I overreact to trolls and sometimes to people who aren't even trolling but just being rude or inconsiderate. I also attract a lot of negativity for 2 reasons: my rants/Satan conversations and the fact that I refuse to let myself sink into a formula. I try something new with every single piece and thusly, many of my works are flawed in some way, sometimes in major ways.
I could easily just pick a formula that everyone likes and go with it, therefore reducing the negativity to a vast degree. However, then I'd cease to be an artist and become a petty xerox machine. It is important to me to grow as an artist and never allow myself to stagnate or comprise by formulizing my art. I always try new things and this is pretty much mutually inclusive with making mistakes.

Hah, trust me if I wanted to flatter you I could say much more ass-kissing things than that. :P It's just the truth- there are very, very few artists on here that not only put as much time into their work as you do, but do it with skill as well.
As well as that, there are almost no other artists on here willing to change their style, format, or general themes. Why? Because they can't bear leaving their comfort zones in case people don't like it. Takes a lot of balls to just do your own thing, and it's the sign of an actual artist rather than someone who just draws shit and doesn't actually care for technique or anything.
But, a lot of people take art for granted- hence the negativity when you change your style... they want and expect you to vend out pretty art to keep them entertained. They wouldn't moan if they were the ones sat their actually putting the effort in :P Making mistakes? If you don't make mistakes, you can't ever improve. If you're not improving, you're either entirely perfect (impossible) or you're not a true artist, you're a vending machine.
Also, don't beat yourself up too much about letting trolls and rude people get to you. You put your entire life into your art! It's completely understandable. It's one thing to just be an artist and deflect insults with a shiny shield of arrogance- it's another thing to be a human, and genuinely take what people say to heart. It's part of that that lets you accept crits properly and take good advice on board when it arrives.
So yeah, it's all very well saying that you shouldn't let them get to you, but... it's part of an attribute that, ultimately, will help you be a better artist. For some reason people who see how good your art is automatically assume you're not actually a person, you're just some kind of... odd internet art creature that spews out nicely arranged pixels. :P

Aww, but the satan conversations are FUNNY. And I've learned lots of new insults from reading your rants, so they're highly educational
Just draw comfort from the fact that you're making these guys mad just by continuing to stay here despite their pathetic attempts at driving you out.
Simple fact is, if you don't conform to the same way as everyone else, then you get people who'll hate you for daring to be different. I get that all the time in the offline world too, lol.
Don't be a carbon copy though. Be yourself. 'cos you rock!
*clings to your legs so you can't leave without having to drag a rather hefty bunny with you*

This is a VERY stunning piece of art. But yeah probabily too graphic for a 13 restriction as you mentioned above oh wel FUDGE DA they don't understand TRUE art. For al it's creepiness it's beautiful.
And also ...... Q,,Q I no longer feel so alone among the undead *hugs zombie brethren*

The small female up front is just some nebulous species of reptile. Michael is so decayed, you wouldn't be able to tell unless you're familiar with canine anatomy- he's a wolf. The reptile behind Michael is just some random kind of reptile. He could be a dino or maybe vaguely iguana like.
