He is about to board a ship to nowhere, his home is far away, his loyal friend, long lost to the vices of the city. As another stranger in a strange place, all that is left is his humble bag, his bedroll, his trusty poncho, and a 3rd class ticket with maybe, the promise to come back one day.
Yes, this is a vent art, but also a piece I used to experiment using only inks and no graphite. Let me know what you think.

This speaks on so many levels.
This style is very striking. In some places it looks like you used the finest pointed pen to get those super crisp lines. In other places it looks like water color with the vagueness of form. Even in monochrome, this piece is vibrant and has a lot of expression.
Giving it a little contextual back story brings that much more depth to the depiction. A downtrodden soul trying to make their way through the world in search of some kind of solace.

Thank you, glad it spoke to you in some way.
I was watching some inking demos from Karl Kopinski and thought on trying to make a full ink piece. He uses a special pen that has a brush tip, but since I don't have that one I mixed some fineliners, a larger ink pen for the rough shadows and finished with a ink wash using a round brush.
Idea was to give some sort of comic book feel and the story came naturally. Funny thing is that in the sketch he was looking a lot younger than I wanted, but the inking somehow corrected that and gave the darker tone I wanted from the very beginning ^^;.

Thank you very much! I wanted to capture the feeling of being in a strange place surrounded by unknown people, something I've been through a couple times. If you look closely, you'll see that he has a ticket to a cruise ship, and in my own interpretation of ths scene, he is looking up the boarding bridge ^^
