The sun was just a faint glow on the edge of the horizon now. The heat from the summer’s day still hanging in the air against the bare fur of the two canines while the milky way shone in the sky above them. Glancing over to the stunning wolamute beside him, Karoit couldn’t help but smile as he placed his paw onto the small of her back. Lavakaw leaned in towards him while her eyes remained in the sky. The light of the sun was nearly faded, the stars becoming clearer with every passing moment. Standing silently, they stared up into the sky waiting. Any minute now and it should start.

With a gasp Lavakaw saw it first, a brief smear of white in the sky to her left. Karoit flicked his head to follow her gaze but missed it, the dingo’s eyes not as adept in the darkness. But a moment later another smear in the night sky caught his eye. The trail hurtling across the heavens before ending as abruptly as it began. But they weren’t waiting for just two falling stars, they stared patiently staring up into the night when suddenly, the sky filled with long trails of light. Dozens of shooting stars filling the darkness above them. Most were small brief flashes, but some were larger and seemed to cross the entire sky before ending. The two canines stared up with wonder, leaning into one another as the sky performed for them.
