He's actually a Minotaur I played for a while in a D&D game with my friends. I got him up to 8th level fighter. His backstory is that he was indeed a gladiator . If anyone has ever read some of the old Dragonlance novels involving the minotaurs, he comes from an Empire much like that. He started life as a slave, but was sold to the Arena shortly after reaching adolescence. It all has something to do with the fact that he is the bastard son of the leader of the most powerful Mercenary Guild in the Empire. And he knows something shameful and rather important that his father did. So his father had him in the Arena to try and kill him. It's a story that I wish I would have had more time to play out and discover, but the game sadly ended when 4th edition came out, blast it all.

That solo combat against two Hill giants that won him his freedom was an epic fight though. :)
