I've always been a paranoid person.
Paranoid about how others see me, paranoid about other people's intentions, paranoid about messing up, paranoid about things going wrong, etc.
So I wanted to create a character to represent that side of me.
I've been toying with a unicorn for a long time (I used to be obsessed with them as a kid) Then when I got back into second life, I discovered mutation industries unicorn av. It seemed to fit perfectly with the kind of skinny, anxious looking guy I'd always imagined.
Kashmir is a very paranoid sort of fellow, of course. He insists he used to be a cop and was shot in the line of duty, which then transformed him into the jibbering wreck he is now, unable to return to work.
However, its unknown how much of this is true, as he is known for over-embellishing things and sometimes outright fabricating things due to his delusions.
He can be quite aggressive about his paranoia, and refuses to acknowlege that its his issue instead of everyone else's. His attitude is 'of course you would say that, you're one of THEM'.
He doesn't have a large social circle as he fears the intentions of everyone around him, and has to be forced into going out and meeting people. He doesn't eat much as he is convinced he's fat, and fears gaining even one pound.
His problem, he claims, stems from being stripped of his powers following the accident.
As a unicorn, he has/had some powers, one of which being the ability to read the intentions of those around him. He had no way of knowing exactly what they were going to do, but he could sense whether their intentions were friendly, aggressive, decietful, honest, etc.
He had this power since he was born. He claims that being shot robbed him of this ability, so he now cannot adjust to not being able to 'read' people as he always had before in his life.
He's about 6ft tall and is in his mid 40's. Kashmir is his last name, and no-one knows what his first name is. He has previously claimed it to be Frank, Mark, and Eddie, as well as several others. He is a chain smoker, and hopeless with women.
He has a friend who is a red fox, who he claims used to be his work partner....

Wow, I love the back story for this character, and how he actually has a reason for his behaviour instead of just being 'I made a character with mental problems aren't I edgy lol'. (I wouldn't expect you to do that, but there are loads of kids out there who would - most of whom don't realise that mental illnesses are actually, y'know, illnesses, and aren't an excuse to be lolwacky for no reason.)
And I LOVE YOU SO MUCH for actually drawing a unicorn with a lion's tail and antelope's legs! As someone interested in mythical beasts it bugs me inordinately that people think unicorns are just horses with a stick-on horn. (I was actually planning on doing an explanatory 'learn the difference' picture of the difference between a typical unicorn and a 'proper' unicorn, then I see this! Heh.)

I think its because I have to justify things to myself about characters before I can be comfortable drawing them, or giving them qualities. My brain is always going 'but WHY would he look like this/act like this' etc I hate the sparklekids who don't actually understand anything about the mental illnesses they put into their characters, like, for example, thinking schizophrenia is just having lots of wacky personalities, ignoring the aggression, anxiety, irrationality, and all the horrible, 'less cool' things that can come along with it. Or thinking depression is almost like a 'choice' where people can turn it off and on.
The unicorn thing has always bugged me too. I have to admit that this guy is closely based on my second life av who had the lions tail and cloven hooves anyway, but even if it hadn't, I'd have altered it to have them. I remember even as a kid trying to avoid any unicorns who were just drawn as sparkly white horses (loved the last unicorn as a kid, still do!).

OOoh, nice. I have to say I love unicorns outside of the 'sparkle' stereotype. I've had an idea for a while about a sort of war-vetern unicorn that smokes a cigar or something to that effect.
Also nice to see a unicorn look correctly goat-esque and not just be a horse with a horn
