A bit over 10 years ago I was walking around a local flea market - not much to catch my attention till I noticed what appeared to be a Japanese sword in a storage scabbard. I went over to the booth it was at and asked to see it. Seller told me he had got it from an estate sale in the US Midwest. I noticed the scabbard seemed old and had some worm holes in it. Seller said, well give me $15 - paid that in a flash. The grip was in bad shape and someone had carved finger grooves into it. Grip fell apart when I arrived home. I did a close inspection of the blade and also called a friend of mine who is from Osaka Japan - bit of a fellow weapons buff. We didn't find any maker's marks on the tang and we figured out the blade is post 1870 production - Wakizashi length - decent edge - made for Imperial Japanese usage in the 1870 to 1945 era. A WW2 bring back - blade turned in by a Japanese Family at the end of the War. Some GI grabbed it as a war trophy. Backdrop is one of my Yukata
A few years ago I slowly picked up modern made fittings and scabbard for the blade - seen here in this image from last year https://www.furaffinity.net/view/35425245/

hehe left it alone, but it was already covered in some sort of glue - I get the feeling the grand kids of who brought it back tried to fix it or somthing after messing it up.
hehe I ended up with a hand guard with a tiger on it along with one fitting for the grip with a tiger.. I'm impressed with the ergonomics of the sword, tracks just like pointing your finger . I've tossed tennis balls in the air and have connected with them - sliced

My girlfriend has a small collection of samurai swords. One is from about 1815 - 1835 (200 years old; Shinshintō era) and since she's a trainer in Okinawan martial arts she has a few modern, ceremonial swords. Years ago she returned to Japan and sought out a certain master sword maker and convinced him to make her a full set. He just doesn't do that, but she impressed him enough doing his 'audition' he agreed. She also bought a wakizashi 'off the shelf', as it were. It doesn't match anything else she has but she really liked it.
Japanese buddy of mine looked this one over closely, Meji era Gunto, probably 1870 to about 1900. No maker marks, machine made blade and damn sharp. Shigeo is a weapons buff and was into kendo. Sounds like your friend has some impressive blades. Mine I put some modern fittings on it for display.
We were texting back and forth this morning (when she wasn't seeing patients) and she said that her tantō is recent and essentially machine made for trade. No signature or maker's name, but damned good quality. This is her regular carry piece; she used it to ward off some drunken bully in a wannabe monster truck who decided to harass us one night. That over-reflective finish on the blade really paid off; she kept catching the overhead lights and throwing the reflections in his eyes! I didn't even have a chance to draw on the @$$#0|3.
Heh, the reflection trick works wonders. Mom did that with a vanity mirror on some Arkansas A Hole years ago. Guy was road raging and finally passed us at high speed. A few mins later we see him pulled over by a cop. Dad slows down and asks for directions just to F with the guy. Guy gets uppity and the cop whacked him with a good old sap.
good stuff. Reminds me, I need to see about fitting a .38 Super barrel to one 1911 slide I have. 9x19mm barrel fitted to it already. Traded for a Rock Island 1911 in 10mm and found it used the same ejector as the 9mm - bought extra Rock Island slide and barrel at a good price on Fleabay - authorized parts distributor. Did some fitting and purchase of mags and 9mm slide stop. Works great. Ended doing it again for .40 S&W slide and barrel for that frame. 3 Calibers on one frame. Ramped .38 barrel on Fleabay is about 80 bucks. I"m sitting on a bunch of .38 super brass and components
I bought a stainless Kimber 1911 in .38 Super and while I was waiting for it I ordered another in 10mm. When they both came in, I told a friend on the bus about them. Some jerk in the next seat got a real sarcastic tone and informed us there was no such caliber as .38 Super, I was just riffing on .38 Special. Then he said, "And you're lying about the 10mm, too. that's just one-upping the 9mm."
My friend calmly asked him, "Are you a gun expert?"
"F--- no! I hate the f---ing things!"
Points to me, "Well, he is."
Hey, just because I have almost 180 books about guns...

I remember you mentioning that one sometime back. I've had 2 very odd .38 supers - one was an extra barrel for a chinese Tokarev Pistol and the other was a rechambered 9mm barrel for a CZ 52 pistol - screwy project a gunsmith friend and I worked on. Used to run it with 160 grain lead round nose bullets doing 900 fps give or take. Slapped steel at some local club matches very well. Drove a few guys crazy - the odd pod ran better than their fancy overpriced 1911s.
Recent assembly/build of mine Palmetto PA 10 in 7.62x51 Nato / .308 Win. 16.25 inch barrel. Rock River rear sight and the Bayonet is a USMC OKC 3S - just released as surplus - issued from 2003 to recently https://tinyurl.com/42meheac Probably would cause the vapors in your state assembly....
upper with bolt and shipping was about $438. Lower complete was about $200. Bayo was about 100 - just back from one of the sandboxes - cleaned a lot of dust out of it and the scabbard. Shipped from base housing on one of the Hawaiian islands. Palmetto doesn't sell that set up as a stock item, but if you look at their sale page, you find some neat stuff. Heh, that PMag is a 25 rounder
