Something a little different - wot, no Vanguard? Meet Dennin - the lesser-demon protagonist from a short story I wrote a few months back, in his native, non-human form. Despite the sort of creature he is, he's actually not that evil, at least not when he meets a young human that he finds himself bonding with. He's looking rather thoughtful and contemplative here, probably wondering what he has got himself into with his relationship with a mortal...
Like most of his ilk, he feeds on negative emotional energy. Only while the rest of his kind are typically rather parasitic in their feeding habits, he channels his sustenance from other victims - people the young guy he has "befriended" consciously (or otherwise) wishes harm.
The story is called "Considerations" and can be found here for those interested - it is only 20-something pages long: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3193974/
A very big thank you and shout out to the remarkably talented young man who has brought yet another one of my characters to life -
stigmata His work speaks for itself, check him out. Yet another artist here who deserves more recognition than he gets.

In the universe that this story takes place in, demons summoned by humans usually ended up feeding off the humans that summoned them by tricking them - the spells used to "summon" them actually bind the human to them, not the other way around. So the foolish summoner thinks "hey cool, I got a demon to boss around!" finds themselves in a world of hurt. Most demons are summoned for purely selfish reasons, and feelings of horror and betrayal are particularly tasty...
However in modern times people tend not to believe in the supernatural, so pickings are slim. Dennin ended up finding something of a kindred spirit in the human that summoned him and decided to take on a more "evil genie" role. Anyway, I wont spoil the story in case you haven't read it. Dennin is a little vain and so always took pride in his appearance, wanting to be somewhat attractive in both his native as well as human camouflage forms.

Negative energy? Would that include guilt, because a Catholic church would be a friggin' buffet.
And another story! You have been holding out on me, good sir! You shall pay dearly for this offense. *smiles mischievously*
By the way, I actually found a little something to redeem The Great North of Iceland. http://www.icelandtattoo.com/listamenn/jon-pall/ Ah, to be able to sit upon his altar for ritual inking.

Did I not already send you "Considerations"? I thought I had! If not let me know and I'll fire a copy off to you. And yes, strong feelings of guilt, but then only contrite guilt and I do not believe many kiddy-fiddling Catholic priests and those that covered up the scandals are particularly guilt-ridden creatures.
Ooooh, that guy does some amazing ink work... Perhaps that is something of a goal you should set yourself, to get some work done by an amazing professional like that. Just beware though, Iceland is not a cheap place to visit, puts even bloody Norge to shame.

You probably did, I'm fairly sure of it, in fact. I'm in a bit of a haze, waiting to get out of this infuriating hospital.
Well then, he'd be right at home in the Vatican, I suppose. *winks*
And yes, I would die happily to have ink of that quality adorning my flesh. I fear what it would cost though, for something worthy of his attention.

how much longer do you have to spend in that medical purgatory, anyway? Not too much longer I am hoping.
I am thinking that tattoo artist would not be cheap, but probably not too much more expensive than some other higher-end artists that you could probably find in the US? Just be the expense of getting there, and staying there while it was done.

Another month, at the least. Depending on how it goes, I may get more leave than just my thirty days, but that remains to be seen.
And yes, he's probably no more expensive than a place near where I live up in Massachusetts, it's just hard finding artists of that calibur and quality of work in the States. Bloody buggers keep a low profile, they do.

I can kind of understand that - the most in-demand artists would probably want to be a lot more picky about what and who they tattoo than the average tat shop on a main street, be more of a case of them choosing you than the other way around.
So is the army still paying you while you recover? And please tell me they are covering the cost of your healthcare and not charging you or your insurance.

Not the Army, dear heart, 'tis the Marines that I am indentured to. And yes, I still receive combat pay while here, and will continue to do so until I'm discharged for good. Being that I am military, yes, they cover all costs, even pay for when mom visits. Too bad they don't pay my bookstore costs. >.<
And yes, they do like to keep a low profile. There's a wicked place near where I live, who often have tattoo artists from around the world come and visit to do art. Fabulous place, it is, and experts at the freehand style, which is what I'm after. Once I have the money, they will be seeing quite a bit of me, oh yes, and thus the journey shall once again surge forth in a miasma of ink, pain, blood, and freedom.

Shitshitshit... Marines... dammit, I am so sorry, sincerely. I know never the twain shall meet. Forgive me. Ah well, with not tooooooo many expenses other than what you are buying in the way of books, hopefully you are able to put a little something away toward your inked fantasies.
And I want pics when all is said and done as well. Are you going to go with your dragon-head idea do you think? I am thinking that a skull tat would be horrendously painful. You definitely need to do this.

*chuckles* The dragon-head tat will be a few years down the road, if I'm lucky. No, for now, I'm going to concentrate on my back and sides, creeping their way around to the chest and stomach. Unfortunately, with the damage and repair work on the left leg, very little of it will be usable for inking. I was hoping to use the skin graft area with ink, but that will never happen. *sighs* So many wonderful ideas destroyed. Oh well.
I would love to have some South Pacific inking/scarring done on the face, but I doubt that will ever happen. *mock-cries*
And yes, never the twain shall meet, despite the fact that Marines would never have come into existence if the British Army hadn't given the British Navy some of their best snipers to put on their ships. Thus, the birth of the first Marines. *smiles*
Oh yes, as for my dragon-head idea, besides the fact it would take time and money, I have to make sure that my mi-, er, potential 'other' wouldn't mind.

If you travel around the South Pacific I am sure you could actually find some artists who would do the tattooing for you, but not so sure about the scarring. Not sure that you would want to go the traditional way of getting a Maori or Pac.Island tat however... exceedingly hurty and primitive. Good body art is a pleasure to behold, and would certainly be a great talking point with any potential girly you got your scaly talons into
Ah, I figured there was an ancient connection with the army and marines, but still does not excuse me. PUNISH ME, MASTER. But also forgive me, I tend to lump all sorts of different military branches under the name "army" being short for "armed forces" in my head. I shall endeavour to conquer that short-coming, however.

Ah, but the Pacific Island way of tattooing has to be done the traditional way, else 'tis not a true PacIs tattoo! Yes, primitive, painful, but that is part of the journey, dear heart! Maybe someday, someday. *chuckles* Ah, to have the patience, skills, and talents to be a tattoo artist. Then no-one would think twice about the way I would look in the business. In fact, the stranger the better!
I have no idea why this posted when I never even hit the ENTER button. Thing is possessed, it is. And yes, the Army/Navy connection is one the Marines don't like to talk about, which I find amusing. Without them, we wouldn't have existed.
Granted, the American Army is... somewhat lacking. They are depressingly sloppy in discipline, looks, manners, the whole bloody nine yards. The only reason they get away with it is because no one cares anymore.

Well aside from the fact that I haven't heard any stories of you going psycho and taking out an entire battalion armed with nothing but a damp sponge, I am lead to the inescapable conclusion that you must have a very high pain threshold if you were even considering a tattoo done traditionally... Balls of steel, that man.
So what is your take with this whole shake-up of Generals getting the boot by the Obama administration? I haven't really been following it much other than the outgoing one having made some remarks to/around some Rolling Stones reporter that got someone in the White House's tits in a tangle.

Are y'sure about that, lad? :P
I just finished reading the story. Thanks so much for sharing it! I've had a bit of a dry spell lately, with reading. Last year of school is intense enough that I only get one day a week to myself, and that is usually spent hibernating or gaming.
I hope life on your side of this planet isn't as demanding as it was when we last spoke (unless you like it that way, of course)!

Okay, so Dennin isn't the sort of demon who would take to having hot, crusty bread mashed against him... fine
Personal life is quite relaxed and calm, professional life is insane - don't like it like that however don't have a lot of choice I know what you mean about spending your free time gaming or hibernating, however - it is one of the reasons I haven't done much writing of late. Still, only another few months before you can really spread your wings and fly away from the shackles that come with school.

I am not giving up writing or letting my muse whither, it is just not the right time for me to be writing at the moment, so I will bide my time and not try to force anything.
Heh, as for wings - metaphorical ones, my friend You are coming close to the end of one phase of your life and preparing yourself for another. Exciting times for you

I caught the metaphor. One of my little quirks, is I tend to amuse myself by responding to sarcastic and other non-literal statements... Well, literally.
The epitome of my schooling career is definitely going to be how I end it. We have a final dinner organised by us, for us, after graduation, and I'm bringing my best guitar dressed in a tuxedo.

Heh, we have more in common than you might think - regarding responses. Just cannot help myself, sometimes then stop when I realize all it will achieve is eyeballs being rolled in my direction
Dude, your date is your best guitar in a tux? Classy! You've got a weird and quirky but also amusing sense of humour.

In the story he has a horn on his nose, but in the initial stages of the pic I asked Mr. Stigmata to take it out as I didn't think it suited him.
If you do ever get around to reading it, let me know what you reckon It is only a short 20-something page story unlike the rest of the stuff I've vomited off the ends of my fingertips.
