Self-awareness would make this totally worth it. Like he's constantly nitpicking the plot beats as they happen, and getting increasingly meta as he references past deconstructions and parodies. Especially if the protagonist is not an everyman audience insert, but an introverted asexual with negative interest in this wish-fulfillment cliche. Going out there every night for the fame and attention so afterward he use his live interviews to talk about campaign finance reform.
