SFM means Source FilmMaker, C4D mean cinema 4D
(I don't know how to start so let's see what comes to mind)
SFM from steam
C4D from maxon.net
Yes and no
SFM is free on steam
Cinema 4D is paid on the official page but on youtube they show you how to urge for free and full
In SFM to move around the map you must do it with the WASD keys to go front left and right, with the Z and X keys to go up and down simple keeping click on the viewport (that is, where it shows you the map)
In C4D it is only arrows that are at the top right, there are 3, one to rotate, another to zoom and finally to move horizontally (which is a bit annoying for small places)
As for the models, in SFM you have to enter steam workshop from the steam application, look for the model, enter and learn where it says download (very easy)
In Cinema 4D it is not like that, since you must look for the models online, the format of the models that you can read are: .lid4 which is the most used .dae, .fbx are the most used, you can also use the .obj and .3D
It is a disadvantage for cinema 4D but if you search well you will find the models, there are pages that have models with that format.
But you can use steam models in sfm, how? It is easy to carry the model.
there are many tutorials on that
as I said before SFM is linked with steam therefore open maps there
in C4d it is very different since you can move the maps as objects
In C4D it goes further, since you can not only make 3D renderings and animations, but you can also create models, create your own textures and your own maps
C4d there are several versions from the c4d r12 to the c4d r21 that came out this year, you can choose between all those to see which one is according to your computer
in sfm there are not several versions, there is only 1 which is somewhat disadvantageous for low-end computers (like mine)
rendering is different as they are different software
It should be noted that I am not an expert in any of the 2 softwares, although I do know more about cinema 4D than SFM.
I couldn't improve in SFM because of my fucking LAPTOP!

render in SFM: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/38461997/
these would be the difference between these 2 softwares.
they have their advantages and their disadvantages these are only their main characteristics, If you ask me which one is better, I would tell you both, since they are both great but if they tell me they have a shitty laptop or PC like me, I would send them with C4D

I hate SFM, C4D is much better in my opinion. It runs better, works better and I don't really have trouble on finding models or maps. I can always make my own models or converting models to a C4D-Friendly format pretty easly.
If you ever need help with C4D though, I'm here to help =3

C4D and SFM is yes, very very very diffrend! SFM really likes to crash suddenly, this is why certain people don't like it, cuz this is where it comes your need to save many times like every 5 minutes and whats more bad is that. . .SFM barely or never updates. Sure theres Source 2 SFM, but this needs more powerfull PC and that sucks. Not even i can run it. But. . .i do see C4D is much better, just. . .because i use Garry's Mod as my rendering program other than just a sandbox game, i've got used for Gmod. Now i even can do every render in 4K which is awesome! ^^
My overall conclusion is that. . .whenever it's SFM or Garry's Mod or C4D or even Blender, you can make awesome renders with them! That's what i like about, your can make content, render of ANYTHING! Creative people uses every possible ways! Not just drawing is art, even 3D renders are artwork too!
I suggest you to stick with that program whatever you find it more easy to use. I very enjoy what you can do with C4D! Keep this awesome skill with you! : )

As I'm SFMer, SFM has less flexible than Blender, C4D. Because not model modifying, only uniformly scale, only material can be modified. To create additional/modified model, Decompiling model to export, Compile model to SFM. Modify texture/material by using special app. And lot of limited and many steps ...
In Blender, It's more difficult to learn than C4D. And I'm struggling.
tbh, Rule???: If a Software had easier to use, More expensive required to buy (subscription). For example C4D. I wish could afford to buy C4D. And same goes with planning to buy FL Studio (DAW, Sound Editor).
