Maybee it's just too much FFXII but I had this interesting dream. I (my persona) had this staff in hir hand, One half was a cruved blade, the other was hammer. The sheath was worn over the sholder and when taken out it extended to around seven feet. The odd thing was how to weild it, it was like twirling a baton, rarely ever in the palm, just constantly spinning and the hand dictating what direction it would spin, both the feet and hands were used to manipulate it. The most compelling image was when shi pulled it behind her back and made it spin up hir spine. An enemy standing right infront of her met the hard end of the hammer side as shi bent down, the spinning staff running up hir spine.
I really have to draw a picture of hir using this thing.
Edit Note : Thank you for the info on the weapons name Allester, so for now the "staff of judgement" shall be forever known as the Voulge of Janus, (note I'm using the proper spelling of the roman God of portals and change, and wierd misc note, it's actually pronounced "Han-nu-us".)

It's called a "Voulge" a Japanese Heavy axe. They where very comonly used by Spearmen on the front lines that didn't want to wear armor (They thought it was a hinderance) so a 'Voulge' was created with a heavy weight on the butt end, and either a straight edged blade like a spear, or curved halbeard blade like the one you have.
That spinning move you saw, is called "Tal-bisin" It's not a japanese word because the Korean's where the first to use the manuver where the weapons shaft is so well balance from both ends, that when it spins on a flat surface it continued to spin. A traveling boshido master witnessed the move and adapted it to the Spear manuver's.
I [LOVE] this things design though, and from the looks of it, it has Japanese origin's so a couple tassel's on the haft bellow the blade end would bring out a great 'traditional' look =^^=
