An adopted character I've created. Art is by Delota
Ever feel like you’re being watched? Alone, late at night, knowing very well no one is around and yet… still can’t quite shake that feeling. Many report this phenomenon, and quickly disregard it as the product of a paranoid mind, aided by instincts. Though, one shouldn’t be so keen as to disregard this, as there’s very likely a hint of truth to such odd feelings. Somewhere, off the beaten path, legends tell of a peculiar swamp. Those that dare venture near tell of many odd sightings and happenings that occur, all of which include paranoia abound, the feeling of being watched a near constant between accounts. Another similarity is tell that the air feels charged. Charged with an unnatural magic sensation. One that feels perverse, invasive. Like their own mind is being laid siege to, like someone is trying to peer into their very own thoughts. It’s nonsense.
Right?
Isolated in a shack in the middle of a swamp, lies Brinn. She’s a rather grim bovine, not known to smile much. Perhaps due to her surroundings, maybe? No matter what, she prefers to keep it that way, attempting to dissuade visitors through a myriad of means. While she may be on the smaller side physically, that doesn’t discount her for being intimidating, or a viable threat. While her grim aura is enough to intimidate, it’s her remarkable magic that scares even the bravest of heroes.
Brinn doesn’t typically utilize traditional forms of magic, i.e fire, wind, light, etc. Rather, she uses her own particular form that doesn’t abide by the rules as much as more standard forms due. It’s this alien magic that she’s (for anyone foolish enough to attempt to see her) feared for. No one’s entirely sure how she performs this magic, though accounts of the swamp’s magical nature are prevalent enough to assume it has some kind of resource she utilizes. Maybe the swamp itself is the real terror here. Regardless, she should never be underestimated if seen outside of it.
Brinn’s magic stems around gaining information outside of what she normally should know. A demented form of ESP. While within a certain radius from her, she can begin to wage her psychic attack, able to read minds. This ability is faint at first, though becomes stronger the closer you approach her. In addition to creatures of sapient intelligence, this extends to lower intelligence animals as well. She can project voices into their heads of her own thoughts. This, however, is not the most horrifying aspect about her power.
While her ability to get inside the mind of someone approaching is bad enough, it’s her ability to see beyond what she should be able to that is terrifying. Within a smaller radius of her than her mind reading, is her ability to propagate what appear to be fully functioning eyes. These can appear on all organic surfaces, and be of varying sizes. They remain stationary, non-moving, but able to look around. They tend to focus on movement. While visually disturbing, they do not seem to harm the individual on which they grow. As one exits the radius, they disappear. The more eyes that appear on a target, the easier it is for Brinn to access their mind. She can focus on certain targets to accelerate eye growth on that particular individual.
The eyes can be disabled by certain means that would damage a regular eye, such as stabbing them or rubbing acids or other harsh irritants on them, though this will also damage whoever is being affected by the eye growth. The best means of disabling them is with blinding light. Attempting to cover them up with more clothes will not work, as the eyes will slowly grow outward over the most outer layer of clothes.
Perhaps even more devious is her ability to, on a fundamental level, mimic the magic of others on who she has enough eyes grown on them. She’s able to recreate various forms of magic through her own means. If the spells are too intricate, or requires a rare material for use, she cannot recreate it.
Aside from mimicry and ESP, she has a decent range of abilities, including telekinesis, wards, water walking, magic trip-mines, familiar usage, alchemy, and flight. Owing to her lack of physical strength, she’s developed an ability to cast magic over long distances, utilizing her eye fields to visualize an opponent, cover them in eyes, and then either turn them away through psychological warfare, or simply eliminate them before they can get close with either their own magic, or her own, should the need arise.
