This is a gag I've been wanting to use for a while, but in its original form, there was this multi-panel parade of guards, sycophants, jugglers, cooks, and so forth. When it came to actually drawing it, I had to settle for the Keeper of the Royal Tush Cush, The Bearer of the Backscratcher, the Indispensable Fan Service, and the Carrier of the Mysterious Thing.
Yeah Sandy. It would also have been good to see your growth from hating the idea to getting comfortable with it, as well as accepting your destiny in staying here, more naturally over the course of this whole story than getting news of this now. Just a lot of snippets really as it felt like you didn't have much choice in the matter. You're basically tethering between background and side character status.
M'alys does not outrank Songween. M'alys is a colonel and a daughter of Countess Fisi's older sister. Songween is a Duchess. Songween is leaving because she wants to avoid any conversation about why Fisi has not been back to Grrsn in years.
Kathy's grandmother Fisi is the chiefess of Clan Grrsn, and someday Kathy would become Chiefess of Clan Grrsn. M'alys's mother has been Acting Regent, but is not the actual Chiefess. This is the source of some friction between Clan Grrsn and Songween.
Songween asked Fred to stay behind to make sure M'alys doesn't tell Kathy anything Songween would prefer she doesn't hear, regarding Madam Fisi and the late General Katre Grrsn, Songween's last Generalissima.

"Which is correct, Chris's chair or Chris' chair? James's car or James' car? Actually, both ways are correct. If a proper name ends with an s, you can add just the apostrophe or an apostrophe and an s." --grammerly.com
"The general rule is that the possessive of a singular noun is formed by adding an apostrophe and s, whether the singular noun ends in s or not. The possessive of a plural noun is formed by adding only an apostrophe when the noun ends in s, and by adding both an apostrophe and s when it ends in a letter other than s." -- thepunctuationguide.com
