Since my queue is empty I’ve decided to take the free time to do something personal for a change. I don’t draw my own character often enough.

Difficult question with many answers, but I'll try :) First, they just look cool, they can be flashy, special, and attention-grabbing in ways other shoes aren't. There are many 'archetypes' (think Jordans or Nike TNs for example) that have many versions so it's easy to have 'favorite sneakers'. There's texture (similar to how leather can feel really nice on a tongue, sneakers have that too). Association with arousing settings and particular subcultures (organized sports, the gym, street fashion, skaters, scallies, etc) is probably the most important factor. The best part (imo)? The promise of sweat and a very distinct smell :P But that's all rationalizing what's essentially personal taste ;)
