Ready for a little bodyweird? I think you're ready for a little body horror. So Gustave Verbeek was this early-1900s-cartoonist who did a couple comics of really fascinating graphic design. One of them, The Terrors of the Tiny Tads, tells of a couple little human kids wandering through lands of strange hybrid animals. Some are simple crosses of animals, like the Flamingorilla. Some are crosses of animals and objects, like the Hippopautomobile. Or, here, from a strip rerun a couple days ago at https://www.gocomics.com/upside-dow.....eek/2021/02/08 the Boomerang-outan.
Once again I copied the key points from the original, although this was just the head, hand and ... joint ... and worked from that. Putting in the fur took forever; I don't ever have so much hatching. But it was worth it, ultimately becoming meditative and calming, and I like how the result comes out. I may do some more Verbeek copies.
Content warning about the Terrors of the Tiny Tads: a lot of the strips have hunting or trapping themes and the animals end up killed altogether too often and I am still quite angry about the Hotelephant.
