Oh, how does lightpainting work, exactly? I see it all over a lot, but I never saw it like this before. Is it a time-lapse trick?

Yes, this piece was a 30 second exposure, and a mini maglite used to "draw" light around the subject, with the light pointed at the camera. You dont see me in the pic as I was not motionless in the pic long enough to be exposed onto the cameras sensor. ^^
