Near Restful Lake in the center of the Forest of Feelings all the Care Bears and Cousins had gathered. Nobel Heart Horse, True Heart Bear, Grams Polite Panda, and Gramps Perfect Panda had just finished their retelling of Founding Day. Oopsy knew that on the World Below this was called Valentine’s Day, though he wasn’t sure why.
All around the Lake there were various places set up to help with the festivities, with everyone taking turns helping with food and games. In the shadows of one of the booths, Oopsy saw a figure. He walked up and saw it was Bashful Heart Rooster holding a heart in his hands. He was looking towards another booth where Gentle Heart Lamb was sitting down eating some ice cream.
“Hi Bashful!”
Bashful started. “YIPE! Oh, Oopsy, it’s you! Sorry, I’m a little distracted.”
“You want to give that heart to Gentle, don’t you?”
“How did you know?!”
Oopsy chuckled, “It was pretty obvious. What’s keeping you?”
“Oh, I’m afraid! I don’t want to mess up! What if she doesn’t like it?”
Gently Oopsy placed a hand on Bashful’s shoulder. “Listen to an expert—you won’t know until you try. As long as you do your best, that’s all that matters. Worrying about something never helps.”
“Thanks, Oopsy! Uh, but will you help me?”
“Of course!”
Bashful slowly approached Gentle with Oopsy at his side. Finally, with a bit of nudging from Oopsy, Bashful tapped Gentle and held up the heart. She took it, smiled, and kissed Bashful on the beak. “Thank you Bashful! Please join me for some ice cream? Oh, you can too Oopsy, if you want.”
Oopsy smiled. “Thanks, but that’s okay. I’m going to see what else is going on. Take care!”
“Take care Oopsy!” the two called back in unison.
There were games run by Funshine Bear, Cheer Bear, Lots-A-Heart Elephant, and Playful Heart Monkey. Swift Heart Rabbit was trying to help the adults.
“Hi Swifty!”
“Hi Oopsy! Having fun? Me Lotty, Playful, Funshine, and Cheer are!”
“Oh yeah! Do you guys need any help?”
“Not right now, but thanks!”
“Okay. Take care Swifty!”
“Take care Oopsy!”
There was a food stand run by Share Bear, Birthday Bear, Loyal Heart Dog, and Joyful Heart Macaw. Treat Heart Pig was trying to help the adults.
“Hi Treat, do you guys need any help?”
“Nope! We got things covered, but how about a heartberry cookie?” He handed Oopsy a cookie with heart-shaped berries baked in.
“Thanks! You’re sure there’s nothing I can do?”
“Well, with most everyone helping in different ways we’ve sort of been taking turns doing things, but thanks anyway!”
“Okay. Take care Treat!”
“Take care Oopsy!”
There was a flower stand run by Friend Bear, Thankful Heart Tanuki, Cozy Heart Penguin, and Hopeful Heart Wolf.
“Looking for a special flower for a special someone?” asked Cozy Heart.
“Not right now. I’m just trying to see if I can help anyone.”
“Maybe ask over at the gift stand?” suggested Hopeful Heart.
“Okay. Thanks! Take care!”
“Take care Oopsy!”
The gift stand was run by Giving Heart Kangaroo, Proud Heart Cat, Good Luck Bear, and Brave Heart Lion. Merry and Surprise Bear were there helping out the adults.
“Hi guys! I don’t suppose you need help?”
“Not right now Oopsy, but it’s kind of you to ask,” said Giving Heart.
“You could try the care stand,” suggested Brave Heart.
“Oh. Okay. Thanks. Take care!”
Oopsy sighed as he went to the care stand. He could be clumsy at times, but he really hoped that wasn’t the reason no one seemed to want him. At the care stand were Tender Heart Bear, Love-A-Lot Bear, Bright Heart Raccoon, and Healing Heart Tiger. Daydream, Harmony, Bedtime, and Wish Bear were all near it too.
“Uh hi?”
“Oopsy! Why are you looking so glum?” asked Bright Heart.
“Well, I really wanted to help out today, but no one seems to want me.”
“Now that’s not true,” said Tender Heart. “I saw you help Bashful earlier. We all help out in our own way, and I have a feeling you’ll find a way to help in a way you don’t expect.”
“Really?”
“Really! I’m sure if you look around, you’ll find someone that needs your help.”
“Thanks Tender!”
Oopsy smiled and walked off, feeling better already. As he did, he passed the four Founders, lately returned from a caring mission on the World Below. “Wow, that’s everyone but Grumpy!” He looked around for Grumpy but caught no sign of his dark blue fur. “Hmm, that’s odd.”
Wish Bear was walking his way. “Hi Wish! Have you seen Grumpy today?”
“Grumpy? Oh! He’s in my observatory. In fact, I was about to head there to bring him some lunch!” as she said this Tender ran up.
“Hi Wish! I’m glad I caught you! Four more of us are heading to the World Below—nothing serious, but you know how it is. We need someone to help with the booths.”
“Oh dear! I wish I’d known sooner! I was going to bring Grumpy this food.”
“I can take it!”
The two looked down at Oopsy. “Why, that would be wonderful!” said Wish.
“That’s really helpful Oopsy!” said Tender.
“I’m glad to help! You can count on me to do my best!”
“I’m sure we can!”

The Moody Mountains had unpredictable weather, but generally tended to be gloomy. Today, though, they seemed oddly clear and sunny. Oopsy carefully followed the paths up to the top of the mountains, first passing Inspiration Point and taking time to admire the inspiring cloud formations there. From there he went up further, tripping once or twice, but being very careful not to lose the basket. Finally, he reached Wish's Observatory. Though it was cloudy, it was not stormy like it usually was by day.
He went inside and called out. “Grumpy, are you in here?”
The ceiling was lined with lightly glowing stars against a black background while the walls were all in dark shades of blue. They also had stars on them for lights, set low so that it was more like moonlight in the halls. Finally, he came to the telescope room. The telescope was down, but Grumpy was in there facing up. His belly symbol was shooting up into the sky.
“Grumpy are you okay?”
Grumpy got up and looked at Oopsy. “Oh. Hi Oopsy. I’m fine. Is that lunch? I’m starving!” He turned off his symbol and walked towards Oopsy, looking a bit tired. Oopsy gave him the basket. “MMMMM! Bumbleberries!”
Grumpy quickly downed a few pies and drinks. “Thanks! That really hit the spot! I’ll be up here another few hours.”
“What are you doing up here anyway? Don’t you want to be with us?”
“Of course I do kid! But I’ve got an important mission today. You see, while everyone else is giving out treats and prizes, I’m staying up here controlling the weather. You could say it’s my present to everyone.”
“Wow! I would never have thought good weather could be a gift!”
Grumpy chuckled. “Most folks don’t—until it starts raining or gets too cold out. But though I like gloomy weather more than sunny, I know everyone else likes a nice, warm sunny day, so that’s what I give them.”
Oopsy was about to turn and leave but stopped. “Hey Grumpy.”
“Yeah kid?”
“Mind if I stay up here and weather watch with you?”
“Not at all kid, not at all!”
So Oopsy spent the rest of the day with Grumpy, keeping him company until the sun went down on Care-A-Lot and Wish returned home for the night.
