Heroes are often willing to sacrifice themselves to save people, yet they often don't think of the lives they will fail to save from not being around afterwards. Of course Princess Sally Acorn essentially did it to save reality itself, so it was a bit more calculated I suppose XD

We will probably never know. I heard that if they had made a season 3 Tails was going to get alot of development so perhaps they could have brought Lazaar back as a mentor since Tails was going for a techno mage kind of deal to help him stand out from Sonic more action orientated style.
