I let you in on a secret about me: I really, REALLY, REALLY strongly dislike the old cartoon "Heidi, girl of the Alps".
The reason is simple, this cartoon (and the books it is based upon)is one of the very few examples of fiction, in which Frankfurt, my city, appears as a main setting. The problem is that it depicts Frankfurt as a dreadfull, cold willhelminian hellhole, a place so nasty that it made the character Clara disabled and gave the heroine chronic depressions. Mind you, we are not talking about Frankfurt shortly after World War 2, which was a lawless wasteland, or Frankfurt in the early 1990s, which was a lawless wasteland, no, we are talking about Frankfurt of the laste 19th century, which was at this time one of the most beautyfull, richest and modern cities in Europe (If Heidi would have went to the Frankfurt I grew up in, she would probably have spontaniously combusted as soon as she left the station). Heidi comes to Frankfurt and all she does is complain how awfull everything is and how much better her goddamn mountains are. When I was a child this confused me ("...what? B..but I LIKE living here!") and the older I got the more angry this made me. "WaH wAh, FrAnKfUrT iS SoOoOoO bAd! wAh WaH, i Am SoOoOoO hOmEsIcK!" Well guess what, you ignorant, whiny little brat, I don´t want YOU in my city too. There are people who like living in Frankfurt, who take pride in being Frankfurters.
And, btw., I always liked "Vicky the Viking" better.
Just a quick one I did at work today.

LOL!
I've only briefly passed through Frankfurt - mainly the airport and the central railway station - and I didn't think it was a bad place. I was amused seeing the sex shops in the basement of Frankfurt International and outside the Frankfurt Bahnhof though
It could have been worse though - H G. Wells apparently hated the town of Woking in the UK so much, he deliberately depicted it as being destroyed by Martian war machines in "The War of the Worlds"...

I just have to say that this is one of your most "Powerful" cartoons of recent time. At first I thought you were showing your displeasure with the "Stereotype" of the old Germany and that of the new, modern city that is now vibrant and growing. I have been enjoying your little photo trips around the city, and it's most likely the closest I'll ever get to visiting your city.
