Ok then... Let's see...
First, my advice. My advice is, it's going to take a long time to get the writing system down. Hirigana and Katakana you can probably get down fairly fast, but Kanji will take a while. So don't get discouraged by how much there is. I suggest learning Hirigana and Katakana, then learning Kanji while learning the grammar and other things.
For Hirigana and Katakana:

Well, for Kanji, honestly, getting a Kanji dictionary is the easiest. There aren't that many sites that are as good for learning Kanji as a Kanji dictionary is. If you do want a online kanji dictionary, this should help:
http://www.saiga-jp.com/kanji_dictionary.html
This is helpful as a driller, both for Kanji and Kana:

Basically online flashcards. It helped for me anyway.
Anyway, an English to Japanese and Japanese to English dictionary is also useful:
http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html
Then... This site I found very helpful for verbs and verb conjugations, adjectives, and grammar in general:
http://www.timwerx.net/home/index.htm
Then... This is also very useful in many ways:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Japanese
Figure out everything on those sites and you're further than I am.
Oh, also, you should also listen to some Japanese speech, to get a feel for the vowels, pronunciation, and other things. I'm sure there's some sites that are designed to help you with that, but you could also just watch some anime or something while learning. (Although, please note, many anime characters aren't very polite (to put it nicely), so just make sure you note the distinction between polite and impolite speech).
