Commission for my room mate, and all around god-tier friend.
You might remember this guy if you've been around for long enough. His name's Nabu, and he's the fursona I designed for my friend a few years ago.
It was super cool to revisit his design after so long, and since I was given a lot of creative freedom with this piece, I decided to use the opportunity to try a different Digital painting style. Sort of. Kind of. Typically, I sketch things traditionally, scan the drawing, and paint underneath the sketch while using the latter as a guide. For this, I did the sketch digitally, cleaned it up a bit, put the flat colors and rough shading underneath, then merged the two layers and painted on top.
I'm actually really, really happy with the result and overall look, so this is how I'll likely be handling future paintings.
P.S. Patrons have access to the full-resolution piece and sketch, and the .psd and process are available to their respective tiers! Check out my patreon link below for more info!
