Kikarr Mishimi [Reference]
"Questions that pull down like chains on an anchor,
Draggin' me to the sea floor!
She has the confident strength of a navy,
Patiently waiting for war!
Aaaaaie,
Aaaaadelaieeee!
Well I'm dyin' to leave,
To sail out to sea!
But o' can I leave her in my wake?
Will she hold on or let go?
'Cause I deserve to know!
I swear I'd return if she'd set me free,
'cause I'm dyin' to leave!~"
- Farronian Shanty, as sung by Kikarr

Kikarr felt the call of sea every since he was a youngling swimming in the clear, serene hatching pools of Keriam. Often referred to as the Second Kingdom, it is the younger of the two kobold-ruled territories of Iyr, the other being it's wealthier neighbor Serrah. As a koibold, an aquatic subspecies of kobold, Kikarr spent most of his life in and around water. For safety his kin built floating towns in the middle of Keriam's many lakes, and swimming was more second-nature to him than walking.
Growing up in the dying days of the War of the Wildfires, as the fledging Arryn Empire his small homeland was a part of was finally turning the tides, he enjoyed a somewhat turbulent but otherwise quiet childhood. His father, conscripted into the Arryn Navy, died before he was born somewhere off the coast of Calajami, so he never really knew him. However, his gaze was inevitably drawn to the open sea, and the more his elders tried to dissuade leaving the safety of freshwater for the dangers of the ocean, the more he wished to go.
At war's end, a maturing Kikarr learned of the legendary satyr privateer Ken Raith, and his exploits aboard the crimson-sailed Red Swan, his flagship. To the koibold, Ken Raith was a larger than life hero of the waves, a treasure hunter and pirate slayer who's every adventure was more exciting and wild than the last. It lit a fire in Kikarr's heart that would never burn out, a burning desire to be just like his hero, a gallanting privateer who sailed to protect the people and send corsairs to the depths of the briny drink. He signed up as a privateer for the Keriam Fleet immediately, ready to get in his sailing expertise, and he couldn't have picked a better time to do so.
The war was over within two months of his joining, and by then the observant and sharp-witted little reptile had learned all he needed to sail a sea-faring vessel. Once the naval ship he'd been serving as a deck-hand on docked at it's home port in Keriam' capital of Rekavaria, he deserted and slipped quietly into the hold of a long, slender sloop flying the flag of Farron, the very empire he'd signed on to fight. It would seem that Mishka'Kai, Patron Dragon of seafarers and travelers, was smiling down at him, as the ship he stowed away on was carrying state of the art military innovations waiting to be patented. One of these items was a harpoon gun, utilizing a complex alchemical system to allow for quick reloading and easy, effective firing. It was a brilliant weapon and tool for any sailor, and Kikarr was happy to take it along with it's supply of ammunition. It would be become a tool synonymous with him.
Upon arrival in the Farronian port of Haydrian Sound, Kikarr once again tried to quietly slink away, only to be caught by the captain of the war sloop docked across from them and brought before him by two of his men. The captain, Lazarus Rhuin, was a fledging privateer himself, having fought through the second half of the war, and was now on contract to fight pirates along the Gidirian Channel. Rather than hand the young koibold to the guards, he saw the fiery determination in his eyes, and hired him to the crew as his cabin boy. He was going to give this curious young lizard a chance to shine, and Kikarr was eager to grab hold of the opportunity and run with it.
It took less than a month aboard Lazarus' ship, the Cerulean Guard, for him to prove himself as a brilliant seasman and excellent fighter. Using his harpoon gun to great effect, often just hearing it fire and seeing the aftermath of a long metal spear pinning one's crewmate to the mast was enough to convince the pirates they caught to surrender. In close combat he was slippery, agile, and effective using the gun's own ammo as impromptu short-spears. Tactically he was ingenious, developing a particularly effective tactic of jumping ship with a sealed keg of gunpowder, swimming to a pursuing vessel, and igniting it under their hull, resulting in catastrophic damage. He rose the ranks quickly, all the way to First Mate by the end of the year.
Outside of combat, he was a much loved member of the crew. His intense charisma, unabashed bravery, and passion for his job inspired all around him. He was also gifted with a beautiful singing voice, and would often lead shanty's and sea songs for his fellow sailors both on and off the ship. Complete with his unique and recognizable uniform, most notably adorned with a mimicry of the Red Swan's infamous flah, tied around his waist as a sash, he had far surpassed the level of renown expected of any kobold outside of their native homelands, and he only continues to impress.
There are talks of giving him a ship of his own under Lazarus' guidance as a privateer-admiral, rumors of letting him loose across the Three Seas to make his legend and bring fame to the Farronian Privateers and terror to the rapidly dwindling pirate factions of Iyr. If true, it will make Kikarr Mishimi the first ever official kobold captain of a Farronian vessel, a feat that would but him, irreversibly, in the annuals of history.
Just don't ask him to sing Wellerman... he tends to get carried away with that one.

ANOTHER OC FOR THE ARMY. This time a walking talking pun! Literally got the idea for this guy just because i thought "Koi-Bold" was funny. Yes, I know I'm an idiot XD
Regardless he turned out remarkably well, and had been drawn in excellent detail by my boi: https://twitter.com/_Plive !!! Go check them the hecc out they do amazing work!
Kikarr the Koibold belongs to meee~
Fun Fact: In the lore of Iyr, gunpowder as a concept was invented in middle of the War of the Wildfires, and while cannons, especially on ships, became very popular replacements for fire mages, the war ended before more innovation could take hold, making further inventions such as early firearms and gunpowder grenades and bombs very underutilized and unexplored as minds shift to reconstruction and peace. Warfare at sea however, has changed forever. Iyr's golden age of sail has just begun!
