Sorry for lack of new art last few weeks - combo of too much day job and too much watching the news and too much sorting files etc etc - and a bit of recovering after late 2020 months of daily posts - and working on detailed stuff to finish and the sun was in my eyes and the dog ate my homework.
So .... in honor of Percy landing on Mars here's a bit from my SF illustration portfolio from October 1979, before i went into the Animation biz instead. i did a few of these two panel examples of how a story's illos could develop the mood from one one style to another related style.
illo 1 is crowquill pens with a renaissance style underlying geometric pattern mixed with modern illustration abstraction. illo 2 a modern abstraction with applied film-tone and a space ship with just lines, no shading.
was going for the SF magazine illustration jobs ( and i did eventually get a bunch, but , as i had started in the animation biz a couple years after this, i had to turn down as many offers as i took.)
will move to scraps in a few days
New furry art is in progress ....

Thanks! The standards for SF magazine illustration are usually quite high, so when i made my illustration portfolio back then i knew i had to do some rather interesting pics to even get noticed. And it worked - but sadly a bit late - i was already full time at Filmation when the magazine illustration offers started pouring in and i had to turn most of them down for lack of time - still, i got to do some rather good illustrations back then, most of which i haven't posted yet...maybe this year ....
i do like SF's work, but i don't recall in 1979 ... i don't recall. Panel one was somewhat inspired by the style of the sf/fantasy illustrators Leo and Diane Dillion - but i wanted to lay another layer of abstaction - hence the classical/neoclassical/El Greco/etc white abstract pattern of angles and circles. i was trying to come up with a pic that would go in a portfolio so all the current illustrators were in the style i was blending into. The second panel was Steranko/mike hinge .... and maybe Kelly Freas , an old Analog cover with a star-ship at that angle ....
