The Guardian Beasts were 22 powerful creatures who lived on the Earth and helped the Spirits of nature to create the Earth since the dawn of time. Tribal people even worshipped them as gods while others regarded them as mere legends. The Guardian Beasts are much larger than normal animals and rarely show themselves to humans. They are allies with Anansi and maintain order between humanity and animals. When the Devourer attacked, the Guardian Beasts sided with the Original Wild Guardian and uniting the humans and animals, managed to defeat him but they gave up their lifes to seal him away. Anansi and the spirits of nature hid the Animus Totem in an ancient temple and erected monuments of the Guardian Beasts to watch over it.There has been a prophecy that if the Devourer ever escaped, the Guardian Beasts will return and be reborn when a New Wild Guardian will be chosen. However, as centuries passed, the prophecy has long been considered a legend until now. Currently, the Guardian Beasts reside in the Beast Realm, somewhere in the Spirit World and act as Max's spirit guides.
