Thank you very much for visiting. Advanced criticism and professional advice are strongly encourage.
A good deal of my time has been consumed in the development of the next version of my website. After having picked up some literature at the book store, I roughly subjected myself to a crash course in PHP and MySQL so that I could develop a far more professional, attractive, and dynamic interface for my website. The screenshot featured in this submission is a test shot of the new design that I am developing.
The header features buttons that link to the site's seven major sections.
* Home - This is to be the root page. There is a repeating ribbon at the top that features various works from my portfolio. At this current time, there is only one ribbon, though I might compose other ribbons and set the page to display a random ribbon from those available. The window below is to be used to display recent updates to the website. The updates featured in the window are just a mock example and you shouldn't read too much into them; they do represent plans I ultimately have, but there's a stark difference between planning and execution, and this site design alone is consuming a lot of my time.
* Gallery - I think this pretty self-explanatory. In the database, I can assign a category to each record; when the list of artworks becomes sizable, I'll work on listing each category to filter the list for users.
* Articles - This is a section for various essays. This is mainly for me to write about some of my more elaborate projects. However, I might also include other essays such as reviews of obscure films from my youth.
* Villains - This is sort of a joke on my antagonistic nature. This section is for essays written on villainous characters that I've composed artworks of.
* Wallpaper - I want to keep a separate section for wallpapers as I don't feel they necessarily belong in the Gallery section. I can also assign categories to wallpaper records as well.
* News - I'm really not quite sure what to do with the news section as of now. Nothing really seems to be going on to deem newsworthy.
* About - This section is for my credentials, achievements, and personal data.
Working on this new design is really draining. I'm building everything right from scratch and I'm dealing with a language and a medium I have little to no experience with. I've been constantly building and refining tools to help me generate HTML code and interact with the MySQL databases. Fortunately, PHP is an object-oriented language, which is of much delight and comfort to me. Ironically, I questioned the logic of creating an object-oriented language for the purpose of generating HTML code; as I continued to work on my design, I've come to realize that it isn't such a bad idea.
However, the interface I'm using for writing the code is really annoying. When I write code on Visual Studio, the program immediately recognizes variables and classes that I've written elsewhere in the document; the interface I use to write PHP on the web doesn't offer this luxury. I often pick "edit" as opposed "code edit", mostly because the "code edit" interface can go really slow when the document becomes large. So, I find myself making the occasional syntax error, but I'm getting used to realizing my error when the page fails.
A final source of aggravation is that I also need to ultimately figure out how to implement a rewrite engine when I get my new site design set up.
I really hope that the new design does not suck up too much more time. I'd appreciate feedback as to the current design that you can see in this submission. Furthermore, other elements that you feel would make excellent inclusions for the site are also highly encouraged.
Again, thank you for the visit. Have a safe and wonderful day.
