Ok, sorry, I know it's not smutty, and I know it's not funny... Your normal humorous light erotica will resume shortly, but I'd just like to ask those that did bother to click the thumbnail to spare a thought that for the 1%.
1% matters. 1% to you can make a difference of 50% to someone else. That is what NATO and the developed world aspire to. It's not a perfect system, mistakes are made, things happen that shouldn't, but the aim is always for the preservation of freedom and of life. It is not perfect, but it is the aim.
But it is not something that happens for free. There are costs.
1% is indeed often worth it numerically and logistically, but please, never discount it. Never think of 1% as insignificant. Never think of it as acceptable. Never think of it as something that never happens. 1% does happen, and if you know of a family who has been affected by it, please offer them your support, because those people had the guts to do what you and I did not: they risked the 1% chance for an ideal.
Thank you.

In other news, I need at least one more male character for the Campus Life collection (alongside June, Jack, Petya, Sapphira, Julie, Xiao, Lia, etc), and Terry's going to need a social circle. Anyone want to cast a vote for him being the new guy?

*hugs and tries not to cry on you too much* Having served in the military in the United States I accept your empathy and offer you my thanks for being one of the sadly shrinking crowd of people who respect that no matter what the government commands us to do, we are still people who feel, fear, breathe, bleed, and die, just like everyone else. And if you may be so kind as to put my two cents in; of those of us who make it home alive, more than a third of us bear mental scars that no amount of therapy will erase. We, the 'damaged goods', have been tasked with execution, 'cleaning' up the aftermath, or concealing entire acts that no living being should ever have to bear. Only worse than that are those involved in the 'black' operations that cannot even acknowledge such acts to anyone under penalty of incarceration or death. Those few that walk through Hell in broad daylight, recounting their actions in their minds over and over. . . They are the madness of war incarnate. -_-
*headpat*
You have my sympathies. The situation is a mess, but it looks like it would be irresponsible to simply back out immediately as it would collapse the local state and leave anarchy. I do however have a lot of respect for people who have the courage to do what most of us don't and put their asses out there to be shot at so that ours won't be.

I only have one tiny request of you Eddie; don't give up on your art or stories. Somewhere else someone like me is discovering your work for the first time. And if it isn't too much to ask, don't draw or write because people demand it, do it because you ove to and it comes from within. I'll admit most of my work is usually pretty emo. ^.^ And if you think you can stomach some harsh reality, I have a piece titled 'Unforgiven' in my gallery that kind of compliments your drawing in a compare/contrast sort of way.
Thank you. Even though I wasn't trying to soapbox on Eddie's picture, there are images that just wrench those tirades out of me for better or worse. Honestly I never thought of myself as military material either, I had joined straight out of high-school to pay my way through college. I was in training when the attacks on New York occurred. I'm normally a very peaceful person (insert comments about irony here), but attacking friends, family, loved ones, and innocent people trigger my rage to see justice served. I don't think it was right for me to be sent overseas to shoot at people who were merely associated with the terrorist groups. It's a sad truth when they say that you never know how much courage you have until it's all you have. Though it think they should add that that courage is only borrowed from the love and support of people we may never meet in our entire lives; so don't feel bad that you don't meet all the wickets to have been one of 'us'. Staying back at home and showing you care about us is as important, if not more, as the weapons we wielded.
