I was surprised to see this character resurface. She originally appeared in a comic of mine, which I will not reference here on account of it being mature. I could not decide if this encounter was benign. I probably intended to make it so, originally, but I was unable to stick with that idea. Macro can soothe and it can smother. It's hard to tell, at any given time, which is happening.
Notes on process:
I finally got a painting workflow down. First I arrange the composition in monochrome light and dark values. When that's done, I'm free to block in some rough color. And from there, it's all about filling in details. When I work this way, I don't have to spend a lot of time wondering about why my composition is muddy and confused. I'm also less tempted to hyperfocus on an aspect of the drawing that I might want to change later.
