I felt that I should draw more of Tuffy from Tom and Jerry. As such, I drew him three times, in three different poses, in three different diapers! I also used a new mannequin support layer with this pic, let me know if you want to see it.
The first pose on the left is the blank diaper, the one he’s most commonly seen in. He started wearing this one in the comics when it was still part of “Our Gang comics”, even when he was still the same color as Jerry. This was also the most common diaper he was wearing in the various cartoons as well. It was most likely chosen due to how easy it is to draw and animate.
The next one is a cloth diaper with knots on the sides. This is his second most common diaper and the first one he wore in the original cartoons initially. In some of the comics, especially the early ones, it was held up by a single knot in the rear. Though it got replaced mostly by the blank diaper, it does pop up every now and again in cartoons, such as the Magic Ring and the 70s Tom and Jerry show. It briefly appeared in the first half of the “Safety Second” cartoon before it abruptly changed to a blank diaper.
Finally, we have a cloth diaper with a safety pin, mostly with the pin secured in the back, surprisingly. Tuffy only wore this one very rarely. It was most common in his “Our Gang comics” days, in fact being the diaper he wore when he made his first appearance. He did occasionally have one in some of the later comics, usually when the story required a safety pin.
