Usually, it depends on the sketch. Since i usually have more freedom to do whatever i want with the sketches, i add color tho the ones i feel need them.
Basic rule of thumb for the sketches is that i spend about an hour on them. Which, when you think about it is just a little over minimum wage... so glad i went to college for fine Arts huh?
