"They say that in the old language, the word for 'sick' was very closely related to the number two while 'healthy' was often associated with the number one. To be sick, to have something wrong with you, is to be divided, at war with yourself, and the cure was to heal the division. This was back before we understood biological causes of disease, back when people thought that illness was an expression of spiritual turmoil. Sometimes, I understand that. Sometimes I get tugged in two different directions, and I feel like I'm going to rip in half. So far, I've always come back together."
