Question: I assume the bg is watercolor, and the fg is marker ... and I assume the watercolor went down first, but the border is so clean .. is the marker opaque on top of the watercolor, or did you do something more to create that separation of media?

the watercolor actually went down last. I just put it down in watery patches a little at a time, then used tissues to sponge up the extra water. Doing that also evens out the overall tone and gives it a nice texture.
