From this sour experience, OMNI decided that where ever it goes it will conduct a rigorous search for this new wonder material but in full secrecy. An extensive exploration effort was already on OMNIS plans as the ever-expanding mage-corporation always needed more. Project Tracer was born, which needed a quick light explorer with the most loyal crew so no information could escape the walls of the corporate this time if they ever do run into the material they so desired. Lots of planning went into this compact exploratory vessel, with OMNI throwing in enormous funding in hopes of the great return if any of their new vessels would found the "gold" again.
So these small ships swarmed out there to trace what its masters whished them to find. Oh, and if you guess that one of them did you were right. There was a problem with time and distance tough. The space they explored usually was way out of the communications range and even if it were in coms range it not as they could just call back home and let everyone who listens in know what they located. Oh no. To keep secrecy to the max a special order was issued to every ship or OMNI agent working on the field. A114 special order stated that in case of a positive find of materials personal are to secure it by all means. All other considerations are secondary. OMNI supplied its expansion plan projection calculated by its computers to its vessel. Based on these plans the exploratory vessel could chart a course for the nearest perceived OMNI asset as data transfer was meant to be done directly.
This is the part where the SS Klondike fate was sealed. En route to KXQ-13 it was intercepted. The crew in cryo sleep was helpless the computers should have woken up the crew but thanks to OMNI's coding it only waked up its agent on board who helped the synth to board the ship transfer its data and hijack the vessel and it people deep into the unknown space to secure its objective. Never to be seen or heard of again. Just another lost ship in space.
