Yin Hou was originally based on the backstory of my fursona, Endarko, but ended up becoming a character of his own, just as the PCA version of Aero did. As an explanation, the whole background of the Dragon Tamers was created by Cruurtan, so give him any credit for that sort of thing. I hope to make a summary of the Dragon Tamers with him at some point so others can understand all this a bit better.
Name: Yin Hou (Technically Hou Yin following traditional grammar, but Yin prefers to be called Yin as his first name. Yin means ‘silver’, while Hou means ‘of noble birth; gentleman’)
Species: Scyther
Battle Skill: Above Average
Average Grades: 63%
Age: 16
Height: 5’ 10.9” (1.8m)
Weight: 167.5lb (84kg)
Grade: Senior
Family: Father: Da Hou (Scizor) Mother: He Lu (Scizor)
History:
Yin was originally living in the mountain range surrounding Blackthorn, working as a servant for the legendary Dragon Tamers of the area. Yin was content with his life as a peasant, but yearned to be a Dragon Tamer despite his lower-class status. Finally attempting to join the Tamers Yin took part in their annual trials, managing to pass them due to his determination and a harsh training regime. Joining the ranks of the Dragon Tamers Yin was the pride of his family. An unlikely member due to being a non-Dragon type, Yin was a rarity among the Tamers’ numbers.
Continuing his harsh training Yin began to crack under the pressures of the Tamers’ customs. Other trainees who were part of the families associated heavily with the Dragon Tamers began to pick on him due to his odd species. Yin began to grow impatient with his trainers and elders, frustrated by their ‘underestimations’ of his mental and physical strength. The pressures of the harsh training of the Dragon Tamers began to crush his spirit. After several years Yin’s repressed frustration finally broke free, in a way that could have ended horribly.
A month after receiving his personal Battle Armour, the traditional ‘coming of age’ of many Dragon Tamers, Yin finally snapped. His emotions were finally snapped by a rather scathing comment from a colleague, sending Yin on a violent rampage through the Tamers’ temple, ending with bloodshed in a fight between himself and an elder. Finally defeated by the much stronger elder and having his wings cut off in the fight, Yin was banished from the Dragon Tamers, his mind still blurred by bloodthirst and frustration. Ashamed and injured, Yin left the Dragon Tamers with a grudge, swearing never to honour their ideals again.
Having gained a scholarship from Blackthorn’s high school Yin is attending his final year of high school at the PCA, far from the prying eyes of the Dragon Tamers, much to his relief. However; a trio of current Dragon Tamers have appeared amongst the school during his time there, much to his horror. Yin is now caught between his kindly personality and his grudge against the Dragon Tamers; unsure of the innocence of these students. Secretly believing they were sent to hunt him down Yin is in an uneasy friendship with them; with the thoughts of his past bloodthirst haunting his mind once more.
Personality:
Yin is very kind and gentle to those he meets, and is always respectful of differences no matter their severity. Yin tends to hold a bit of a big-brother like position among his friends due to his surprising maturity and gentle nature, along with his tall structure. However, Yin is usually very quiet, which while usually not a problem can lead to trouble as he rarely talks about himself or his own problems, leading to outbursts of emotion after long times of repression of said emotions. It also means that he rarely opposes others’ opinions or decisions, regardless of how wrong they may be in his eyes. While Yin can often be found being dragged around by his friends when push comes to shove he stands alone, disliking relying on other over himself.
Since his first taste of blood years ago Yin has gained some sort of bizarre bloodthirst, and is infatuated with the liquid. While this is rarely seen in his normal personality Yin has been known to enter this berserk state when in battle; but only when he sees or tastes blood, perhaps a link to the frenzies of Sharpedoes. This strange trait has earnt him quite a lot of fear from his friends and from himself, as he fears that eventually one of these outbursts will end with a fatality.
Yin is very arrogant and closed-minded in regards to the members of the Dragon Tamers in the PCA, let alone all of the members. He seems to believe it is his destiny to wipe them out judging by his rage against them, and all his rather unjustified beliefs as to their ‘cultist’ culture.
Interests:
Yin is rarely talks about himself, and thus his interests are relatively unknown among even his friends. Yin does have interests and hobbies though, enjoying acting and singing when he is alone, and can often be found singing along to his music player when he thinks no-one is watching. Yin also enjoys cooking, and often surprises his friends with some of his traditional dishes.
Moves:
Freshman Moves:
False Swipe: With a elegant slash of his gleaming blades Yin makes a perfect cut across his opponent; a blow likely to fell his opponent in almost a single blow. This is by far Yin’s most powerful and rightly feared move; and one of his favourites as he dislikes fighting, especially for long times.
Fury Cutter: While Yin dislikes having to rely on series of slashes as opposed to singular, conclusive slashes; Yin has some combination attacks prepared. While he sometimes uses flurries of slashes this move instead uses a combination of strong sweeping slashes, used to keep his opponent cringing from the last slash whilst the next is completed.
Slash: This move is obviously the basis of Yin’s attacks, as almost of his moves are used via his natural blades. Whether a crushing chop or a flurry of slashes Yin strikes with speed and precision, his skill with his blades unmatched… in non-Scythers, at least.
X-Scissor: Preparing his blades in a scissor like form Yin moves in to finish fallen foes with a lethal cut. Yin has never actually used this move though, as it would most likely be fatal, instead using the position over his opponent to show their defeat.
Sophomore Moves:
Night Slash: Disappearing into the shadows Yin stalks his unwary victim, before making a ghostly slash from their flank. This move is not particularly strong in truth, although it allows Yin far greater stealth than he could naturally have.
Air Slash: Channelling the power of the winds Yin slashes through the air with his blade, creating a current of incredibly fast and therefore rending wind at his target.
Swords Dance: Performing a ritualistic dance Yin sharpens his blades and focus. The dance is a symphony of the metallic clashes of his blades, combined with twirls and acrobatics that require perfect focus, lest they lead to the slashing of the dancer themselves.
Counter: Closing his eyes Yin enters a state of preparation of reaction, sensing the smallest air movements and sound in order to prepare for retaliation. While this state is usually used to simply block any blows heading his way Yin sometimes follows it with a counter-attack, fiercely retaliating against his foes.
Junior Moves:
Natural Gift: Drawing the power out of the life of plants, Yin creates a mysterious attack based upon the berry he is holding. Usually Yin holds a Jaboca berry; a patch of which he attends to in his dorm; as the berry was once grown by him as part of his duties in his times as a Dragon Tamer. With this berry he uses a slash tainted with draconic flames; while the berry is absorbed as part of the attack.
Cut: Focussing all his might Yin makes a devastating slash, chopping through wood or rock or eviscerating foes with a single blow. This move is incredibly strong; acting as a more conventional version of False Swipe.
Silver Wind: Channelling the winds of his spirit Yin calls upon a mystical sparkling gust which blinds his opponent. Occasionally this move will open up Yin’s true powers, unleashing his true abilities upon an unsuspecting foe.
Light Screen: With this move Yin creates a rectangular shield based upon a tower shield, although it can be made larger or smaller as needed. He generally uses it as a conventional shield, but it requires a hand to use meaning he has to fold away on of his blades to use it. He can also use this move to ‘draw’ objects and make them out of the mystical light, but he is far less skilled at this, often messing up his drawings rather embarrassingly.
Senior Moves:
Brick Break: With a crushing chop Yin can shatter shield in one attack, using a double bladed chop with both his blades. The swing can break even mystical shields with it’s might, shattering them on contact. The move is rather slow and predictable though, so Yin rarely uses it.
Toxic: Injecting a thin layer of slightly acidic toxin along and out the end of his blades from a poison sac in his tail Yin taints his blades with an excruciating poison, which while rather useless against skin is extremely painful when applied to open wounds. The poison isn’t infectious though, simply being a modified acid in truth. As a side note, Yin’s toxin sac in his tail is only thinly protected by his exoskeleton, and has a tendency to be easily burst into a spray of poison when slit.
Pursuit: Using his newfound speed that Mercury taught him to use Yin engages in an high-speed pursit of his foe, often managing to slash them before they can escape the battleground in order to switch with teammates or to simply flee him.
Double Team: Using his small stores of mystical power Yin creates illusionary copies of himself, which distract his foes and can block weaker attacks. The copies are only simple imitations of Yin, and cannot perform any complex actions like many psychics’ ones, nor can they hold a true physical presence or be created in high quantities.
Appearance:
Yin is rather tall and slightly bulky, although he believes that his weight is mainly muscle, no matter how much his friends disagree. Being a Scyther Yin has large blades in his arms, though a layer of skin similar to the ‘plates’ on his legs covers it’s retracted form most of the time, and allows him to use his hand which are usually hidden by the blades. Recently Yin has begun painting some of his exoskeleton plates white, as a symbol of his training by the hands of Mercury and his eventual recruitment into the freerunning ‘club’, although he is making slow progress. These white plates are generally hidden under his clothes, as they are along his back, as he doesn’t want to get busted by the school just yet. Finally, Yin still has a tattoo of his Dragon Tamer days on his chest, though it has been blurred over the years, but is still recognisable to other Tamers.
Yin generally wears a white t-shirt (since long-sleeved shirts would be sliced open by his blades) and snow camouflage-print cargo pants. On more showy occasions Yin will wear a leather jacket and scarf over his usual gear, and for especially formal occasions he wears a red and white Yuanlingshan.
Team and Relationships:
Yin doesn’t have many friends in the PCA due to his shy personality as well as his rumoured madness, however he is the subject of a few crushes from girls due to his looks and sensitive personality. Outside of the school though he has a few friends, especially being close to Mercury who he is learning from in order to learn how to better repress his bloodthirst by focussing on something else; in this case his inner ‘beat’. He is often teased by Janice due to his high-strung response to flirting or suggestive comment, which simply inspires her to mess with him more, although beyond these pranks the two are friends, and Janice is rumoured to have a crush on Yin. Yin has begun to get used to Janice’s flirts now, simply ignoring them most times.
