A more traditional dragon.
I tend to stay away from scales. They're a lot like math. I can sometimes be lazy of the brain and will shirk. When you shirk on visual math, it shows. The more complex the visual equation, the more I shirk. Scales are complex with several variable such as scale shape, scale size, and the way those differently sized and shaped scales map to the different sizes and shapes and perspectives and curves of the body. Each variable has to be correct and consistent for the final design to look correct and consistent.
So I got on my case for being lazy and made myself draw scales. Shame at seeing the product of this laziness will hopefully make me more discerning and specific in the future.
