Principal Kayda is a bit of a mystery.
If she has a last name, no student has ever found it out.
Her life before taking up the job is a complete blank, except that she considers being principal a retirement from whatever she used to do.
With no warning, the previous principal quit to move to America. That's what Kayda said in the assembly where she announced to the student body and faculty that she was the new principal.
(An announcement that sent the more curious students running to a globe)
Kayda not only considers being principal as like a retirement, she also treats it like one. She is frequently absent to go to conferences or on trips. When she is in her office, she tends to spend the time reading fishing magazines.
The way she sees it, the role of the principal is not education. That's what teachers and informative pamphlets are for. The job of the principal is the big picture.
Is the school burning down? Have the children been kidnapped to an island for death matches? Are the teachers striking? No? Then the Vice-Principal can handle it.
The Vice-Principal is wrapped so tightly around the guidance counselor's finger, that he may as well be a ring instead of a ring-tailed lemur? Well, Kayda isn't bothered that the Vice-Principal has his vices, provided no busy work crosses her desk.
Virginia Bubo still having a job despite her various nudity-related mishaps on campus is thanks to Principal Kayda's relaxed view of what merits her attention.
Heck, that goes for the art teachers Evaline Churchell and Stephanie March too! And for Ms. Cumberland's criminal schemes that she thinks the principal doesn't know about.
That's all small to medium picture.
Principal Kayda focuses on the big stuff, like preventing the school from sinking into the sea.
Oh, hadn't heard of that? Think the school is "landlocked"? Well, no need to thank her. Just doing her job.

It took a while but I've gotten another picture of the komodo dragon girl I adopted from
caribou . Another picture and a role for her!
The person overlooking all the shenanigans at Virginia Bubo's school. It's a tough job but someone needs to not do it.
I was partially inspired by the principal from Bob's Burgers who has never shown up and is just this unseen presence who doesn't do a whole lot. I envision Kayda as someone who used to be in a high-tension high-stakes job and decided to be a high school principal to relax after leaving that life behind. There is a very real question about whether she's actually qualified to do the work but she doesn't really do the work so its fine, I guess?

EDIT: Originally the joke was that the previous principal moved to Dunia, with nobody being familiar with Jasiri's kingdom. But since I'm considering having all the characters in more or less the same cartographic area, I changed the joke slightly.
