I finally finished restoring and customizing a wrecked toy sailboat that I found at the park last weekend and I am absolutely thrilled with the results! The hull was found smashed and barely floating in the lake. I used a soldering iron to weld the hull back together and filled in large holes with scrap plastic. I then sanded the hull and spray painted it a bright cyan. Using my wood working tools I cut out a wooden deck and super glued it to the hull after adding a washer for ballast along with a peice of Styrofoam incase there were still leaks I had not found. I then found a bit of fabric with a lovely anchor pattern, and cut it out and sewed it into a sail. I made masts from dowels, and attached the sail and rigging. The bowsies (wood blocks used to adjust rigging) came from an in-complete 1960s Revell USS Constitution model kit I found at the train store. (there was literally just some fittings, two cast metal anchors with chain, the name plate, and three life boats). The deck fittings were hand made from wire. She now floats exceptionally well and performs beautifully in a light breeze on calm waters.
