The brave warrior defends his wounded lover, even knowing that he won't survive this final confrontation.
This was a rare commission piece, where the commissioner just provided a simple theme, and asked for my interpretation of it. The theme was either honor or bravery (I don't remember exactly at the moment), but I think the subject covers either <=)
Enjoy!

What? Honor and bravery in the face of annihilation do not count for anything? Not so, good artist! That little bird that the warrior untangled from the Theddafuss vine on the march to this gods-forsaken-place wasn't just an ordinary bird, but a messenger from the Gods. A tester, sent to evaluate the warrior's soul -- and the warrior passed the test! For just this one time the warrior's sword becomes enchanted and he is able to drive that shambling giant back to its ill-smelling pestilential cave to sleep for another a hundred centuries.
And the warrior? He and his lover do, as the fairy tales say, live happily ever after.
