Guessing its a single shot HDR effect? Hard to believe a bird would sit still long enough for a proper 2+ exposure HDR.

This is artificial HDR, yes
But these birds sit VERY still
If I had my D700 with me instead of my D60 (which lacks bracketing) it could have been natural HDR
