The Dodge Daytona was indeed a stock car, howlever, it and its contemporary, the SuperBird were ALMOST in the reverse of the rules (and therefore borderline violations) of "STOCK" car at the time. National Association of Stock Car Automotive Racing (NASCAR) stated all racing vehicles had to be taken from cars that were in production at the time.
The base car was the Dodge Charger of the day, but up-engined and a spoiler added. The Dodge Daytona then BECAME a limited-production vehicle.
The Plymouth Superbird also was an up-engined Plymouth Roadrunner (with added spoiler) that also became a limited-production car.
