Now for something a bit different. In 1906 George McManus --- who'd eventually create the long-running Bringing Up Father/Maggie and Jiggs comic strip --- was just kicking around trying out stuff for a while and moving on. Along the way, he did a spoof of Winsor McCay's revered Little Nemo in Slumberland. This spoof, Nibsy the Newsboy in Funny Fairyland, has the same structure and stunning visuals but much more ... you know ... participation by the title character in the goings-on.
So here's the King of Funny Fairyland, transformed into a monkey and finding his way out of this fix. From a panel that ran the 27th of May, 1906. Or, for normal mortals, it reran recently on GoComics, at https://www.gocomics.com/origins-of.....ics/2021/02/26 so you can see all the mischief.
That crown was a lot of fun to do once I figured out how to do it. The ruffles there, that was ... something that had fun aspects.
