A door opens with a creak. A smaller than average grey wolf enters his apartment, closing the door behind him. He hangs his coat in the hallway wardrobe, and moves to the living room. He carries a bag, which he places down on the couch. He then moves to the kitchen, and grabs some juice from the fridge. He settles down at the dining table, and opens his laptop. He logs in, and is greeted by the standard message when logging in.
“Welcome, Lucas White. How has your day been?”
-“Not too great, thanks for asking.” He responds to the electronical device.
Lucas had not been having the greatest of days. Earlier today, he went to visit both of his parents, who divorced when Lucas was 12. Now 21 years old, he had grown used to the divorced lifestyle his parents are living. However, his parents had had a falling out, yelling and screaming at each other. Lucas was forced to take a side, which he hated, and in the end, didn’t. He felt awful about it.
On top of that, he hadn’t had any commissions in the past 2 weeks. Those commissions are his main source of income, being an artist. That added to the up-building stress he’d been having.
*knock* *knock*
He moved towards the front door, hearing the loud knocks. When he opened the door, he was greeted by the stern face of the landowner, a big, Canadian moose.
“Sorry t’bother ya, mister White, but the rent’s doubled this month. Sorry fer the inconvenience.” The moose said.
Lucas was flabbergasted by this. His monthly rent was already at the max of what he could afford, but now it got doubled?!
“Oh. Okay, thanks for the heads up, mister De Graçe.” He responded with some tone of stress to his voice. The landowner then turned around and took off. After closing the door, Lucas’ emotions started taking over. The piled-up stress from everything that has been happening in the past two weeks was coming out in the form of tears.
He cried, and he cried. Then he did the one thing he could think of. He grabbed his phone, looked through his contacts, looking for one name: Damian Campbell. He pressed “call”. The phone started dialing the number, and started giving that signature beep. After about ten seconds, he heard a voice.
“Hey Lucas! What can I do for you?” Damian answered.
Upon hearing his friend’s voice, Lucas couldn’t hold it anymore, and started an all-out bawl.
“Damian” he said, sobbing. “I-I-I don’t… know… what to do.” He couldn’t calm himself, crying in between words.
-“Lucas, calm down. What’s going on? Tell me.” Damian said, trying to comfort his sobbing friend. “Do I need to drop by, or do you want to come this way?” Damian offers.
“Ye-h-hes… I’ll come” *sob* “your way.” Lucas manages to say.
-“Alright, I’ll see you in a bit. Take some time to calm down, and make your way over here whenever you feel like it, okay, Lucas?”
Lucas takes a deep breath, and exhales slowly, little sobs in between. “Yes, that sounds good. I’ll be over in a bit.” Lucas says, hanging up after signing off.
Lucas starts packing some stuff, like a block of paper, his pencil case, his laptop, and some extra clothes, still sobbing in the meantime. He planned on staying the night at Damian’s. He perks up a little at the thought of coming over to the 1-year younger melanistic fox, called Damian. Lucas had always had feelings for the fox, for the simple reason that Damian would always protect Lucas from bullies. Of course, his incredible build added to the mix of feelings.
Lucas moves to his front door, backpack in hand. He grabs a coat, and puts on a scarf. It’s quite chilly outside, Lucas thinks. He opens his door, exits his apartment, and moves out, locking the door behind him. Once outside, he takes a big breath, taking in all the fresh air that greets him. Then starts his 30-minute journey towards his high school friend, and secret crush.
